Abstract/Shapes Class - A Project Full of Holes

Here is the next project from my Abstract/Shapes Papercrafting Class – a project full of holes!

This is a great project for children as it’s bright and fun.

The first step is to stick the Thick Whisper White basecard and Basic Black layer together. I chose Black and White as it makes the bright colours pop even more.

Then, holes are cut into the Whisper White Layer using the Layering Circles and Layering Squares dies. Make sure you leave some space between each shape as you need to be able to add the colour.

Next, using pieces of bright cardstock, I drew round the unwanted cut out pieces. Don’t forget to use those unwanted pieces on other projects afterwards.

You can either draw round them leaving a bit of an extra margin, or draw round the shape normally. When you cut them out, each shape needs to be slightly larger so it can sit comfortably behind the hole.

Once they are cut out, take time lining up each shape in turn behind their relevant hole and gluing it onto the black layer. You’ll need to take your white piece back and forth lots of times.

Add your sentiment to the white layer, gluing just the part that touches it. My sentiment is from the Itty Bitty Birthdays Stamp Set and I’ve made a banner end by using the Classic Label Punch. You could also use the new Banners Pick a Punch from the Mini Catalogue for this too.

Finally, use Dimensionals to attach the white layer to the black layer. This gives the shapes more depth as the white layer floats above the colours.

The same effect can be achieved by using DSP behind the shapes too. There are lots of different ways this design can be used to create different effects.
