– Karen from HIPPOFROG Designs has been running Card & Cuppa for Children classes in various cafes across Milton Keynes since 2017 and also over ZOOM during lockdown
– Attendees make a greetings card (the ‘Card’ part) using the instruction given.
– All the items needed to make the card are provided.
– During the class, the attendees also have a drink from the cafe (the ‘Cuppa’ part) – one for the adult and one for the child
– Each week the card is different and the designs use techniques such as stamping images, punching shapes and colouring etc. -
Where is Lilly Cafe?
– Lilly Cafe is located at the back of Whitehouse Surgery on the new Whitehouse estate in Milton Keynes.
– The postcode is MK8 1EQ. Their website is https://lillycafe.com/
– You can access the estate from the V3, V4 and H4.

– As it is around the back of the surgery (next to the Chemist), there is a walk from the car park.
– On days when the Surgery is open, you can cut through to the back of the building.
- Why do I have to pre-book?
– Due to nature of the class and to ensure everyone is able to create, learn and have fun, numbers are capped.
– There needs to be enough kits available for everyone.
– Kits are put together for the number attending, so booking closes at 14:15 the Saturday before the class (72 hours in advance).
– The cafe also needs to be informed in advance of expected numbers so they can set tables aside for us.

- What confirmation/reminders will I receive?
– When you book, you will receive an automated confirmation email from the booking system. This email also provides you with the options to make any changes to your booking.

Is this is only Card & Cuppa for Children session each week?
– Yes. This is to fit in with both Karen’s time and availability at Lilly Cafe.
– If there is sufficient interest, other days/times during the week might be added. -
Why has the class price increased since pre-COVID?
– Due to the change in drinks prices since our last in person classes (approx half of the new class fee), the class fee has had to increase.
– Plus, the cost of cardstock, embellishments etc has also increased. -

– Cash or bank transfer are the preferred options. -
What do I do if I am unwell/can’t attend?
– Obviously if you or the child/children are unwell/have COVID symptons you should not attend.

What happens at the class?
– Everyone arrives and takes a seat at our reserved section.
– Payments are made and drinks orders taken.
– The card is shown and Karen explains how to make it using the Stampin’ Up! items laid out on the table that everyone shares.
– Everyone then makes their card and enjoys their drink.
– Any additional tuition is provided.
– The class has a relaxed atmosphere.
– Although the class is 90 minutes long, some weeks the project may not take long to complete at all. You are free to leave once the project is completed, or stay and socialise. Other weeks, as the items the children use are shared, they may have to wait for a few minutes for the products to be available to them.
– Once the project is completed, please take a picture of it. You can then share the picture in the Show off Sunday post on the HIPPOFROG Designs Facebook Page.
- How are you keeping the children safe?
– Karen has Enhanced DBS clearance for working with children and vulnerable adults.
– Each adult is responsible for the child/children they are accompanying, including behavioural expectations.
– Please remember that the cafe is a public space and as such, we cannot control who enters etc.
- What are your expectations on behaviour?
– These classes are designed as a space for the children to create, learn and have fun. With that in mind, it is expected that the children will listen to the instructions given, be polite to everyone and share nicely.
– If a child is being particularly disruptive, you and they will be asked to leave.
– For the adults, you will be expected to assist the child/children you are accompanying where needed, whilst also allowing them to explore their creativity based on the instructions and tuition given.
Sometimes we need to remember that it is their project, not ours!
- Will you be running Card & Cuppa for Children again later in the year?
– If the summer classes work well, Card & Cuppa for Children may return during the October half-term holiday.
- Can I see projects from previous Card & Cuppa for Children classes?
– Of course! Below are some of the Card & Cuppa for Children projects we’ve made in the past.
– Please note that during lockdown these classes changed to Card & (Your) Cuppa for Children and were held online with no sharing of stamp sets or stamped images allowed in class kits.
