Last Week’s Card & Cuppa – Dragonfly Dreams creates a buzz

Last week’s Card & Cuppa was a hive of activity with 7 attendees creating the following project:

Dragonfly Dreams Stampin' Up! UK

Even though I don’t take the Big Shot to Card & Cuppa classes, we still used an Embossing Folder and Framelit.  You don’t have to have a Big Shot to use dies and embossing folders.

To create the honeycomb effect, we turned the Hexagons Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder into a Stamp.  We did this by using a Stampin’ Pad to ink up the Embossing Folder applied pressure to transfer the ink.  Cutting out sections of the Crushed Curry piece and then sticking to the Very Vanilla piece made a hive effect.

Bees were stamped directly onto the project with another onto a separate piece of cardstock.  As we were fussy cutting the separate bee, we created a cutting guide by drawing around the co-ordinating framelit.  This gave a more professional look with smooth curved outlines around the feelers and wings.

A play on words sentiment and Linen Thread add the finishing touches with Wink of Stella on the yellow parts of the bee for some sparkle.

If you’d like to join us at next week’s Card & Cuppa classes, please make sure you book your place by 18:00 the night before.

Last Week’s Card & Cuppa – Delicate Details

At last week’s Card & Cuppa Class, I decided to make a floral card using the SAB Delicate Details Stamp Set.

Delicate Details Stampin' Up! UK

I coordinated the images with Doilies folded around the edge of the card, then used Petite Petals and Bunch of Blossoms for the flowers and leaves.

Instead of stamping each lace strip separately, I mounted them onto two large clear blocks and stamped in different colours.

By stampin up to three flowers with one inking of Sweet Sugarplum we added depth and different colours.  We then used two shades of green to create variegated leaves.

Finally, once everything had been stuck together, tiny pearls were added to the centre of each flower.

Don’t forget that Delicate Details is one of 15 FREE products available during Sale-A-Bration.

Beautiful You – Class design process

I love running my papercrafting classes, and designing the projects for each one is great fun.

Here is a little bit of detail on how the class design process works for me.

Usually I’ll have drawn a few rough sketches of design ideas in a notebook beforehand.  However, more often than not, the projects I create are a bit different to what I had originally drawn!

I normally end up creating more projects than I need for each class and therefore some don’t make the cut.  The main reasons are the project being too time consuming or the design not working at that point.

The following card is one that didn’t make the cut!

Beautiful You Stampin' Up! UK

This design wasn’t used at my recent Beautiful You Class as it would have taken a while to complete all of the elements.  We did, however, end up making one very similar to this that took about 3 minutes from beginning to end instead!  Keep an eye on my Pinterest boards for the Class projects.

This design uses a Stampin’ Pad, a Watercolor Pencil and a Blender Pen.  After stamping the dancing lady image, I softened the lines with a Blender Pen to create depth.

The thread is Thick Baker’s Twine that I’ve separated into three strands before attaching to the front of the card.  A great tip to make the Thick Baker’s Twine less bulky.

This is a really versatile card as the hat, cardstock and thread are all coordinated so could be changed to any colour.

My 7th Stampin’ Up! Birthday

It’s my 7th Stampin’ Up! Birthday!

Today marks 7 years since I signed on the dotted line and became a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator.

I joined Stampin’ Up! as it was the perfect way to realise my dream of running my own craft business.  My timing was great as I joined during Sale-A-Bration and was able take advantage of the extra benefits available at that time.

Back in 2010, little did I know that seven years later papercrafting would be my main job, and each week I would be running regular card making classes.

So a HUGE ‘cheers’ to everyone who has supported me and made this possible.  Here’s to the next 7 years!

Last Week’s Card & Cuppa – Playful Palette Banner Card

I hope you had a great weekend and are ready to start the week.

At last week’s Card & Cuppa classes we made this pretty banner card.

Playful Palette DSP Stampin' Up! UK

Everyone made their own selection of 1cm, 1.5cm and 2cm banners.  We also made banners out of coordinating Washi Tape by sticking it to cardstock before cutting.

By lining up the centre of the Classic Label punch, we punched a banner shape in the ends, instead of cutting by hand.  This just requires a little bit of tidying up by hand if your banners are wider than the punch.  You could also use the Triple Banner Punch for this step, but would need to ensure the pieces were long enough to fit the punch first.

Due to there being over 20 different patterns, I didn’t prepare a base card in advance.  I took a selection of coordinating colours along and the attendees chose one that fitted with their project.  This is also the reason for using Basic Black as an accent colour for the mat, bow and stamping too.

Banner cards are perfect projects for paper hoarders as you don’t use a lot of paper, and can show off both sides of the paper too.

To join us at next week’s classes make sure you book your place by 18:00 the day before.

Anti-Valentine’s Birthday

A friend celebrated their Birthday on February 14th, so I created a red-free anti-Valentine’s Birthday card for them.
Avant Garden Stampin' Up!

Using Basic Gray Archival Ink to stamp the image, I coloured it using Calypso Coral and Old Olive Watercolor Pencils.  I then used a Blender Pen to soften and darken various areas of the flowers and leaves.

I chose the same colours for matting and layering for a coordinating look and a Thick Whisper White base card.

To finish the project, I’ve added an Old Olive Baker’s Twine bow and highlighted the flowers with Wink of Stella.

Every year, there is a Sale-A-Bration item that becomes a firm favourite amongst my customers.  This year is no different, with the Avant Garden Stamp Set taking the top spot.

It’s becoming one of my favourite items too!  I love how this set allows you to create a variety of beautiful cards really quickly with minimal effort.

Sale-A-Bration runs until the end of March so there is still time to earn this and other fabulous items.  There will be 3 new SAB items added on 21st February, so watch this space for more details.

Items are FREE with every £45 you spend, head to my Special Offers page for more information.

Congratulations with Inside the Lines

One of my regular class attendees had some good news last week so a Congratulations card was definitely in order.

I reached for my Inside the Lines SAB DSP and Watercolor Pencils and made this panel card for them.

Inside the Lines DSP Stampin' Up!

Using a few of the pencils, I coloured in the DSP to create the bright section at the bottom.  I then used Blender pens to soften the colouring.  Once I’d finished colouring the panel, I cut it into three equal panels to create the bottom section.

Unfortunately, the sentiment, stamped in Black Archival Ink, doesn’t show up too well in this picture, it stands out better in real life!

The finishing touches are a Linen Thread bow and Rhinestones with the card mats co-ordinating with the coloured panel.

Customer ‘Thank you’ cards

As regular readers will know, I enjoy making ‘thank you’ cards for my customers.

This time I combined old and new on a notecard.  You will have received one of these if you placed an order with me in the past few weeks.

SAB So Very Much Stampin' Up! UK

These cute cards use the brand new FREE SAB Stamp Set So Very Much and Timeless Texures, a set I haven’t used for quite a while.  I really like this large ‘thank you’ as it says it all in a lovely font. Plus, due to the size, it allows for a fun background to be created instead.

The cards are also monochrome as I’ve only used the Real Red ink pad onto Whisper White.  However, it looks like more due to the varying tones of the red achieved by different levels of stamping off of images.

For the finishing touch, I added a dots of Wink of Stella in Clear across the background.

I hope you are all enjoying your new goodies, along with those FREE Sale-A-Bration items.

Last Week’s Card & Cuppa – Swirly Bird

At last week’s Card & Cuppa we once again used the very versatile Swirly Bird stamp set.

This time, we used the boat images and created this project.

Swirly Bird Stampin' Up! Card & Cuppa

We used Sponge Daubers for the Sun and Sea and Sponge Brayers for the sea and sky.  Sponge Brayers are great for creating fabulous effects really quickly.

Firstly we created our beach and then the sun from a piece of cardstock with a hole in the middle.  We then used the cut-out ‘hole’ to mask the sun before brayering the sea and sky.

As I couldn’t decide which card I preferred, I gave the attendees the choice of making a landscape or portrait card.  It was a 60/40 split.

Which is your favourite?

Don’t forget that Sale-A-Bration is running until the end of March.  It’s a great opportunity to get your hands on this fabulous Stamp Set and earn FREE products too.
