Last Week’s Card & (Your) Cuppa – Hippo & Friends Dies

At Card & (Your) Cuppa, I regularly ask the attendees to suggest projects they would like to make.

One of the recent responses has been a unicorn. So for last week’s card, we entered into a fantasy world.

Hippo & Friends Dies. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

All of the pieces are cut using the Hippo & Friends Dies, apart from the sentiment.

Quite a number of colours, Purple Posy, Highland Heather, Blushing Bride, Flirty Flamingo, Daffodil Delight and Soft Sea Foam make an appearance in this project. I wanted it to be colourful, yet not too brash.

As the unicorn horn is a rather fiddly piece, wet glue was my preferred choice for sticking it to the body. It’s easier, and less messy, to pop some glue on the body, then add the horn.

This is then repeated for the balloon string.

Hippo & Friends Dies. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

With the layers stuck together with the unicorn on top, it was time to finish the project.

I chose to use the sentiment from the co-ordinating Hippo Happiness Stamp Set in Highland Heather Ink. The end is shaped using the Banners Pick a Punch.

The large piece, with the unicorn on top, is attached using Dimensionals to raise it off the page. Another Mini Dimensional attaches the balloon.

Three flowers, coloured with Wink of Stella are then scattered around using Glue Dots.

Hippo & Friends Dies. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Finally, a tiny Gold Glitter Enamel Dot creates the eye and adds a touch more sparkle.

There aren’t many more Card & (Your) Cuppa sessions left for 2020, so make sure you book your place to join me. Head to my Class Timetable for full details.

Last Week’s Card & Cuppa – Time to Celebrate with Rooted in Nature

Card & Cuppa returned last week and we made this project using the fabulous Rooted in Nature Stamp Set.

Time to Celebrate with Rooted in Nature. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

I think this Stamp Set will take the place of the recently retired Lovely as a Tree for me.

The background uses the trunk section stamped in Crumb Cake before adding the leaves. All of the leaves were stamped off to use second generation stamping and give a more muted look.

For the first time, we used the Stamparatus at class and it was a hit! I’d pre-cut the trees using the matching dies and the Stamparatus helped to stamp the tree perfectly in Old Olive onto the shapes.

Time to Celebrate with Rooted in Nature. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Old Olive and the Itty Bitty Birthdays Stamp Set, along with the Classic Label Punch gave us our sentiment. By positioning it on the tree trunk, I think it made it look like a way marker sign that you find on walks in the countryside.

Time to Celebrate with Rooted in Nature. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

A strip of Burlap Ribbon to co-ordinate with the Crumb Cake, followed by the tree and sentiment, finish the look.

Don’t forget to make the most of the bundles on the retiring list, like this one, before 3rd June.

Book your place for a Card & Cuppa class by 18:00 the day before.

A Little Bit of Pink

It’s that time of year when I make a Birthday card for a friend of mine who is a fan of everything pink and sparkly.

Here is the card I made using a little bit of pink…

Little Bit of Pink. Project designed by Karn at HIPPOFROG Designs

As you know, I’m not a fan of pink and I don’t really like glitter either. So, this is one of those times of year when I am forced way outside of my comfort zone!

This allows me to challenge myself and also spend time thinking about the person I am making for. It’s good to step outside of your crafting comfort zone every now. Things like using bright colours if you like pastels or creating a grunge style project if you like clean and simple etc are all good challenges.

Little Bit of Pink. Project designed by Karn at HIPPOFROG Designs

The little bit of pink is from Petal Pink and Flirty Flamingo and the project uses the Well Said Stamp Set and Well Written Dies from the Spring/Summer Catalogue.

This Stamp Set and Dies are currently available in a bundle with 10% off until 3rd June. After that, they will not be in a bundle format and will be full price. As this is a large set, it’s definitely worthwhile getting your hands on it while it’s discounted.

I’ve also used the Artisan Textures Stamp Set to create a background.

Little Bit of Pink. Project designed by Karn at HIPPOFROG Designs

There just had to be sparkle so I’ve used Wink of Stella on the Butterflies and ‘birthday’ die cut shape. There are also Rhinestones for the flower centres, the dot of the ‘i’ and just a few scattered around.

A length of Silver Metallic Thread wrapped around the centre then pulls these elements together.

Little Bit of Pink. Project designed by Karn at HIPPOFROG Designs

Don’t forget that items on the retiring list are only available until 3rd June (while stocks last).

A fond farewell to the In Color Collection 2017-2019

As we will soon be saying hello to 5 brand new In Colors, we need to say a fond farewell to In Color Collection 2017-2019.

I’ve made this quick and easy project bringing them all together.

Fond farewell to In Color Collection 2017-2019. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

These five colours of Powder Pink, Fresh Fig, Tranquil Tide, Berry Burst and Lemon Lime Twist leave us after two years.

This project uses inkpads in all of the colours, two colours of Cardstock and the Pop of Petals Bundle.

Leaves in the greens and some background stamping, finished with punched flowers in two colours create this very simple project.

If you want to get your hands on these In Color products before they leave then make sure you place your order. Items will only be available while stocks last so don’t miss out.

As well as saying a fond farewell to the In Color Collection 2017-2019, don’t forget that bundles retire too. Although the items from a bundle may remain, the bundle itself will no longer be available in the new catalogue. Take advantage of those discounted bundles while you still can.

I know which of these fabulous In Colors I’ll miss the most, what about you?

Introducing Grapefruit Grove

Here’s another project from my recent In Color Introduction class and this project is introducing Grapefruit Grove. You’ll have seen me use the colour previously.

Introducing Grapefruit Grove. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

This uses the new Rooted in Nature Bundle from the Nature’s Poem Suite in the Annual Catalogue. It’s one of those sets that grabbed my attention straight away and I knew it just had to fall into my basket!

Here we’ve used the leaves from the Stamp Set and stamped them in Grapefruit Grove.

Using the co-ordinating Nature’s Root Framelit we’ve cut the smaller leaves and both embossed and cut the feature leaves. The texture these have is really stunning.

Introducing Grapefruit Grove. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Happy Birthday Gorgeous provides the sentiment and it sits in a circle from the Stitched Shape Framelits and a layer from the Layering Circles Framelits.

These all sit on a strip of matching Grapefruit Grove ribbon.

Introducing Grapefruit Grove. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

I love the colour combination of this project with Grapefruit Grove, Pool Party and Merry Merlot. It’s not the usual colour scheme you would use for leaves but I’m really pleased with how it came out.

It’s great to experiment with unusual colour combinations or change from what is perceived to be the norm.

Last Week’s Card & Cuppa – Inspired by Wimbledon

Every year at Card & Cuppa, I design a project inspired by Wimbledon Tennis Tournament colours.

Here is this year’s Purple, Green and Yellow card.

Project inspired by Wimbledon. Designed by Karen Young at HIPPOFROG Designs

This card uses the same bundle we used last week – Pop of Petals with the Four-Petal Punch. Touches of Texture is where the flowers and ‘splats’ come from.

The leaves are Granny Apple Green with Gorgeous Grape flowers. The background stamp is in Pineapple Punch.

A crucial part was stamping the butterflies 7 times using Memento Ink, 3 on the card and 4 onto a strip on Pineapple Punch cardstock.

To add more depth to the butterflies, parts are coloured with the matching Stampin’ Write Marker. On one of the butterflies, the colouring is covered with Wink of Stella before punching.

Project inspired by Wimbledon. Designed by Karen Young at HIPPOFROG Designs

3 of the butterflies are then stuck over the background butterflies. The final butterfly is then added with a Dimensional to look like it is flying off the card.

Project inspired by Wimbledon. Designed by Karen Young at HIPPOFROG Designs

A great summery sentiment free card that is suitable for a lot of different occasions.

Why not join us at a future Card & Cuppa session by booking your place here. Don’t forget about the special Card & Cuppa for Children sessions I’m running during the school holidays too.

Last Week’s Card & Cuppa – Pop of Petals

At last week’s Card & Cuppa session the attendees got to play with a new bundle – Pop of Petals.

Pop of Petals Bundle. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

This project is my version of the sample on Page 47 of the Annual Catalogue. I’ve used Petal Pink, Pear Pizzazz, Gorgeous Grape and Flirty Flamingo ink.

The stamp set has a number of flower designs that co-ordinate with the Four-Petal Flower Punch. Word of warning here, the punch and images need to marry up as the punch is not symmetrical.

Firstly, a pretty image of several flowers in the set creates the background. Two different flower images are used in this design, one is for the flowers in Flirty Flamingo onto Petal Pink cardstock. Second is the leaves using tone-on-tone stamping and then cutting the image into four.

I love the sentiment from Picture Perfect Birthday as makes a great centrepiece.

Using Blender Pens we softened the flowers by moving ink from the stamping to colour the images.

Pop of Petals Bundle. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Wink of Stella adds sparkle in the centre of the flowers. Finally, everything was built from the bottom to the top using a combination of SNAIL and Dimensionals to create depth.

Sharing What I Love

Yesterday I shared a BRAND NEW Suite from the forthcoming Annual Catalogue with you.

Today I’m sharing what I love with a project made using products from the suite.

Share What You Love Suite from Stampin' Up! Project designed by Karen Young at HIPPOFORG Designs hippofrogdesigns.co.uk

This card is for a friend and fellow Stampin’ Up! fan, so I couldn’t resist sending her a project filled with new goodies.

The items are paired with some old favourites such as the Happy Birthday Gorgeous Stamp Set, Old Olive and Rich Razzleberry inks and Rhinestones.

Items from the Share What You Love Suite are available as three different bundles.  Check them out HERE.

I’m waiting to see if my friend manages to spot all of the new items. How many can you find?

Share What You Love Suite from Stampin' Up! Project designed by Karen Young at HIPPOFORG Designs hippofrogdesigns.co.uk

Well, here is the answer.

For this project we have the fabulous Love What You Do Stamp Set that has images of flowers, leaves and backgrounds along with sentiments. It’s sure to become one of those go to sets.

Plus, there is a BRAND NEW Colour from the 2018-2020 In Color Collection called Grapefruit Grove. I’ve used both the ink and cardstock here.

Finally, I’ve also included a sneak peek of a new ribbon too. Can you see those lovely Polka Dots, they are really beautiful and textured on tulle. This isn’t in the bundles, but is coming your way in June.

The Bundles are only available during May 2018 so make sure you don’t miss out. Plus, don’t forget that the retiring list is only around until the end of the month (while stocks last). Why not combine the two and have the best of old and new.
