Countdown to Christmas #3

It’s Friday again, so time for Countdown to Christmas #3.

This week I’m sharing the Tag Buffet Stamp Set.

Countdown to Christmas #3. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

The cute stocking is stamped in Tuxedo Black and coloured with the Real Red Stampin’ Blends Combo.

Using the Heartwarming Hugs DSP, currently on Special Offer during October as the layer. I have also used it again using shapes cut from the Tailored Tag Punch.

You’ll notice that I chose the DSP with a diamond pattern to co-ordinate with the punched shapes.

Countdown to Christmas #3. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

A top tip is to use a basecard that you can’t see through when you hold it up to the light, like my Real Red one here. That way, you can punch out the shapes from the DSP layer and get more out of your paper.

Before adding the fussy cut stocking, a length of the Braided Linen Trim in Real Red is looped across one of the diamonds.

The stocking is then added with some Dimensionals.

Finally, some Wonderful Gems are added to the project as a sparkly touch.

The Tag Buffet Stamp Set, Braided Linen Trim and Wonderful Gems are part of my Crack Your Christmas Cards Class.

Booking closes on Wednesday, so head to my Class Timetable for full details.

Countdown to Christmas #2

It’s Friday again, which means it’s time for my next Countdown to Christmas project.

So, here’s Countdown to Christmas #2.

Countdown to Christmas #2. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

If you’re a regular reader, you’ll know that I like simple, non-fussy projects, with a particular like of monochrome projects.

Countdown to Christmas #2 uses Mossy Meadow and Whisper White. It’s just one stamp set, one ink pad and one punch.

There’s obviously a few extras such as the co-ordinating ribbon, a Blender Pen and Wink of Stella. But, you don’t have to use these.

Countdown to Christmas #2. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

For this project, I stamped one of the baubles from the Christmas Gleaming Stamp Set multiple times in Mossy Meadow. This Stamp Set is a returning favourite from last year, and I’m pleased to see it back!

A top tip is to stamp where you want your focal image one to go, and then stamp the others round it a various angles.

These were coloured using a Blender Pen.

Then, after stamping another onto a separate sheet, the bauble is coloured and given some sparkle using Wink of Stella. You can’t see it very well in the picture, so you’ll have to take my word for it that is is rather sparkly!

This is then cut out using the co-ordinating punch from the  Gleaming Ornaments Punch Pack.

A length of the new Diagonal Stripe Ribbon from the August-December Mini Catalogue is looped and stuck to the back of the bauble.

The Merry Christmas sentiment from the Stamp Set is cut out by hand and stuck to the bauble.

Finally, the whole bauble piece is stuck over the original image using Dimensionals to make it the focus.

Countdown to Christmas #2. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Using this technique, you can create a number of cards really quickly, and in lots of different colours.

Pop back next week for Countdown to Christmas #3.

Countdown to Christmas #1

I know Christmas seems ages away, but did you know that it’s actually 12 weeks today?

Every Friday, I’ll be running my ‘Countdown to Christmas’ series where I’ll be sharing a Christmas project with you to help you get ahead.

My first project for Countdown to Christmas #1 is a simple Christmas Card using DSP. It’s the Toile Tidings DSP, a returning favourite from last year’s Autumn/Winter Catalogue.

Countdown to Christmas #1. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

This DSP is currently in the in the 15% off DSP sale during October.

By cutting the pieces of DSP into 3/4″ strips – this gets you 16 strips per sheet. With 12 sheets in the pack, that’s a lot of strips, to make a lot of cards!

With this DSP being Real Red on one side and Garden Green on the other, you can choose how to layer them.

I’ve used 6 strips here and starting at the top, layered them on top of each other onto a piece of cardstock. The overhang from the edges is then cut off, ready to use on the next card.

Countdown to Christmas #1. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

When I’m making projects like this, I put a good amount of glue all along the edges of the cardstock (as close as I can get), plus a couple of strips down the middle. Then, rather than putting glue on the DSP, I just stick the strips directly onto the glue on the cardstock. It helps to keep the glue on the project, rather than all over everything else!

Using a Thick Whisper White basecard and co-ordinating Garden Green as a layer, it helps to bring the project together .

My sentiment is from the Perfectly Plaid Stamp Set stamped onto a shape cut using the Tasteful Labels Dies. By cutting round the edge of this piece, I have been able to use the shape again as a layer.

Countdown to Christmas #1. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

What is great about these DSP strip projects is you can arrange the strips in any pattern, and add any sentiment.

You can also embellish as much or a little as you like using ribbons, rhinestones, gems etc.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this Countdown to Christmas #1 project. Pop back next Friday for Countdown to Christmas #2.

Christmas Stamp-a-Stack: Making Christmas Bright

I know that Christmas Day was a few days ago, but I’m sharing my final Christmas Stamp-a-Stack project with you.

As this project uses the Making Christmas Bright Stamp Set from the Annual Catalogue, there is no chance of it retiring next week.

Making Christmas Bright. Handmade by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

A combination of Shaded Spruce, Lovely Lipstick, Crushed Curry, Very Vanilla and Gold Foil are used for this project.

The pretty star edged circle is stamped onto the cardstock, and 3 light bulbs and bases are punched using the matching Christmas Bulb Builder Punch.

These are then assembled using Glue Dots – a lot less fiddly, time-consuming and messy than wet glue!

Making Christmas Bright. Handmade by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

For the sentiment, the Tailored Tag Punch is used once to cut out the main words, and again to create the layer behind.

A strip of the fabulous Ribbon is stuck behind before everything is then assembled.

Which of the four Christmas Stamp-a-Stack projects is your favourite?

Special Christmas Cards: This year’s poinsettia

Merry Christmas!

It has become tradition at my Special Christmas Cards Class for me to design a poinsettia project. This is the final project from the Class.

Here is this year’s poinsettia. Click for my 2018 design.

This year's poinsettia. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

It uses the leaves from the Rooted in Nature Stamp Set and some punched circles.

A lot of leaves were stamped and fussy cut. You could use the matching Dies to cut them out, but, as this was a class with lots of people, it was quicker and easier to cut by hand.

Using a Bone Folder, you can score down the centre of each petal to give a bit more definition and depth.

The petals are then built into several sandwiches. These are then stuck together slightly offset in their sizes to create a large layer and a small layer. For the top small layer, a disc of Crushed Curry forms part of the sandwich.

Using some Dimensionals, these are then layered together for even more depth.

Three green leaves are then added to the back of the poinsettia using Glue Dots.

This year's poinsettia. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

A strip of the fabulous Gold Ribbon is looped in the background, before the poinsettia is attached to the card using Tear & Tape. The Tear & Tape gives it extra strength as the poinsettia is quite heavy.

Finally, a Gold Faceted Gem is added to the centre for a spot of bling.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my Special Christmas Cards. Pop back later in the week for the final Stamp-a-Stack Christmas project.

Last Week’s Card & Cuppa – Rudolph Punch Art

For the final Card & Cuppa sessions of the year, I designed this Rudolph punch art project. We just had to do something silly and fun!

Rudolph Punch Art. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

The Natures’s Beauty Stamp Set provided the snow that was stamped in Seaside Spray.

‘Ho Ho Ho’ is from the Perfectly Plaid Stamp Set and cut out with the Classic Label Punch.

Next, it’s time to create the reindeers using the Budding Borders Stamp Set and Basic Gray for the eyes and mouth.

Sprig Punch antlers in Early Espresso are added behind Soft Suede Circle Punch bodies using Glue Dots. Then the eyes and brown noses are added.

Rudolph’s nose is made very shiny using Wink of Stella and is attached with a Dimensional.

Finally, the reindeers are stuck onto the card using SNAIL, with Rudolph added at the end using Dimensionals to show him leading the pack.

Special Christmas Cards: Rustic Wreath

The second of my Special Christmas Cards is this traditional rustic wreath.

Rustic Wreath. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

It’s made with a combination of leaf punches, die-cut circles and scallops, plus lots of different adhesives!

The main colours are Garden Green and Crumb Cake, with Old Olive, Mossy Meadow, Gold, Real Red and Very Vanilla.

Rustic Wreath. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Snowflakes are from the Christmas Countdown and Colorful Season Stamp Sets, leaf image from Painted Harvest and Snowman Season provides the sentiment.

Two ‘sandwiches’ of leaves are created using scallop circle die-cuts from the Layering Circles Dies. The sandwiches are layered together using Dimensionals to create depth. The scallop circle die-cuts are then hidden beneath the Gold scallop die-cut.

The Triple Banner Punch shapes the ends of the sentiment.

Rustic Wreath. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

To continue the rustic look, a length of Burlap Ribbon is placed behind the wreath.

Pearls coloured with a Dark Real Red Stampin’ Blend pen create some berries to finish the look.

Special Christmas Cards: Snowman Season Bundle

As well as my Christmas Stamp-a-Stack, I also run a Special Christmas Cards Class. The attendees make three Christmas Cards and envelopes that are for those special people in their life. These are the cards you give by hand.

One of these is a card suitable for children (or big kids!) and it’s this cute hanging card.

Snowman Season Bundle. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

I knew it had to be snowmen, so the Snowman Season Bundle was the perfect choice.

As I’d pre-made the hanging sections by using pieces of Coastal Cabana Cardstock joined together using the Circle Tab Punch, the attendees could have fun creating their snowmen for each section.

Snowman Season Bundle. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

The punched snowmen were stamped in Smoky Slate, with Soft Suede arms. All the other stamping was in Blueberry Bushel. Stampin’ Write Markers in a variety of colours were used to colour the hats and carrot noses.

Snowman Season Bundle. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

A ‘Let it Snow’ snowball used the 1 3/8″ Scallop Circle with the a Circle Punch layer.

An extra stamped piece is added to the front for when the hanging is closed. It’s then finished off with a length of ribbon to allow it to hang.

I realise that I haven’t taken a picture of what it looks like closed. I’ll try to do that and add it here.

An envelope made from the matching Let it Snow DSP was the finishing touch.

I really like this project as it’s something different. It can be hung from a door handle, message board or window. You could even add extra sections to make it longer.

Don’t forget to take a look at the Year-End Closeout to see if the items from this fabulous bundle are staying with us.

Last Week’s Card & Cuppa – Nature’s Beauty

For our penultimate Card & Cuppa sessions of 2019, I reached for the fabulous Nature’s Beauty Stamp Set to create this snowy scene.

Nature's Beauty. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

I love that £2.50 from every sale of this Stamp Set goes towards mental health organisations. So, for just £20, you receive a stunning Stamp Set, and help others too.

To begin with, the attendees had to make the decision between Whisper White or Very Vanilla for their project. I made one in both and still can’t decide which one I prefer.

Here is the same project in Very Vanilla.

Nature's Beauty. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Next, one side of the Grid Paper is ripped to create a snow drift effect. Then, a punched circle mask is added to the cardstock to create a moon.

Using a Sponge Brayer and Night of Navy ink, the cardstock is coloured to create a winter night sky.

Here is the Whisper White version.

Nature's Beauty. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

And the Very Vanilla version.

Nature's Beauty. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Stars, from the Christmas Countdown Stamp Set are then dotted across the sky.

With the moon and snow masks removed, trees and grass are then stamped in Basic Gray. The beautiful fox, also stamped in Basic Gray and coloured with Watercolor Pencils is cut out and attached using Dimensionals.

Finally, using the very tip, dots of Wink of Stella are added to some of the stars to create a sparkly sky.

Nature's Beauty. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

I really love this card and already know who is going to be receiving both of mine.

Are you team Whisper White or team Very Vanilla?
