Meowing at the Moon

It’s the 13th (not a Friday), but it seems like an appropriate day to share this project.

This lucky black cat, meowing at the moon is a purrfect (sorry) project for Halloween.

Meowing at the Moon. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

This project is Pumpkin Pie, Basic Black and Whisper White.

First, the wall pattern is made by using the Brick & Mortar Embossing Folder in my Cut & Emboss Machine.

Using a Sponge Dauber and Whisper White Ink Pad, highlights are added to show some of the brickwork.

This is then stuck to the black layer, cutting off any excess from the edges.

Meowing at the Moon. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Next, a Sponge Dauber and Pumpkin Pie Ink create the moon on a Whisper White shape cut using the 2 1/4″ Circle Punch.

I chose to create my moon using a Sponge Dauber and Ink to give an effect of darker and lighter areas.

Finally, the cat is created using the Cat Punch and sat on the wall using Dimensionals.Meowing at the Moon. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

I really love this silhouette, and the white highlights on the wall which look like it’s glistening in the moonlight.

It’s not too late to get your hands on some of these items in time for Halloween crafting.

Last Week’s Card & (Your) Cuppa – Embossed Circles

For last week’s Card & (Your) Cuppa project, I made a non-stamping version of a recent project.

Embossed Circles. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

As you can see, this version uses embossed circles and die-cut leaves.

Pumpkin Pie, Poppy Parade, Blushing Bride and Early Espresso, along with Very Vanilla are once again my colour combination.

Sponge daubers and ink create a vintage look across the Very Vanilla cardstock. The attendees were free to use Sponge Daubers and their own inks for this. They also provided a sentiment of their choice.

Embossed Circles. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Forever Flourishing Dies provide the Pumpkin Pie leaves as the first part of the various layers.

Next, the three embossed circles are stuck down. These have been given texture using the Wrapped in Texture Embossing Folders and Greenery Embossing Folders.

The sentiment, mine is from the Blossoms in Bloom Stamp Set, then has a strip of Scallop Lace Trim stuck to the back of it.

Using Mini Dimensionals, the sentiment is raised off the project.

Finally, three Champagne Rhinestones add some bling. They co-ordinate really well with the colours of the card.

Last Week’s Card & (Your) Cuppa – Petal Pink, Misty Moonlight and Some Sparkle

Last week’s Card & (Your) Cuppa project combined Petal Pink, Misty Moonlight and some sparkle to create this pretty card.

If you’re a regular visitor, you’ll know I’m not a fan of pink, and certainly not the paler pink shades. However, this colour combination works really well!

As I can’t send pre-stamped items out in my class kits due to Stampin’ Up! rules, my kits tend to contain shapes and embellishments.

This card is a version of this previous project, just without stamping.

On these projects without stamping, I like to use texture instead. This begins with the Metallic Mesh Ribbon as a background strip.Petal Pink, Misty Moonlight and Some Sparkle. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Using two Label Me Lovely Punch shapes, one is cut in half and stuck behind to create the look of a layer.

On this, a Whisper White punched circle shape is attached to help the large butterflies stand out.

Scrunching the butterflies adds more texture, along with the Baker’s Twine antennae from the Flowers for Every Season Ribbon Combo Pack.

The twine co-ordinates with the silver in the ribbon and the Misty Moonlight cardstock.

Wink of Stella on the smaller butterflies adds even more sparkle, before finally adding some Rhinestones to complete the project.

Customer Thank You cards using Comfort & Hope

It’s my favourite time of the month again. It’s when I make and send Thank You cards to the fabulous customers who have supported my business during the previous month.

August’s customers will have hopefully now received these cards I made using the fabulous Comfort & Hope Stamp Set.

Customer Thank You Cards using Comfort & Hope. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

I was sad when some of the texture and grunge-type Stamp Sets retired, but this Comfort & Hope Stamp Set is helping to fill that gap for me.

I haven’t used it very often, but I expect it will get a few more outings.

My colour combination is Blushing Bride, Pool Party, So Saffron and Soft Sea Foam from the Subtles Collection.Customer Thank You Cards using Comfort & Hope. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Each image is stamped across the page to create an abstract pattern.

The loop of thread image has a sentiment from the Many Mates Stamp Set stamped in the centre. This is then cut out with the 2″ Circle Punch.

I love that there are even rhinestone images in this Stamp Set.Customer Thank You Cards using Comfort & Hope. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

A swoosh of the Sheer Ribbon in co-ordinating Pool Party is stuck behind the sentiment.

Finally, some ‘real’ Rhinestones dot around the project to add some sparkle.

Last Week’s Card & (Your) Cuppa – Essential Tag Punch: Take Two

For last week’s Card & (Your) Cuppa project, it was take two for the Essential Tag Punch.

Essential Tag Punch: Take Two. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

I previously made this project at one of my recent Papercrafting Classes. The Card & (Your) Cuppa attendees liked it and wanted to make one, hence the reason for Essential Tag Punch: Take Two.

For this version, I’ve chosen Just Jade as my main colour.

Once again, it uses the Forever Greenery DSP, cut out with the Essential Tag Punch from the Mini Catalogue. I chose three pieces of DSP and cut two from each, in different orientations. This is so they could be used for either the top or bottom row.

It’s easier to start with the middle two shapes and work out, as you can decide your distances between the shapes. The shapes overhung the edges on mine, so I trimmed them down.

A sentiment from the Lovely You Stamp Set is stamped in co-ordinating Just Jade onto a punched circle.

This is layered onto a length of Just Jade Ribbon and a die cut from the Forever Flourishing Dies.

By make some small changes, using different sheets of DSP, using Just Jade and adding a sentiment, you can see the differences.

Happiness is… Hippo Happiness

It had to happen sooner or later! I finally got to play with my Hippo Happiness Stamp Set and Dies Bundle.

Hippo Happiness Bundle. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

This cute project just uses the hippo parts of the Stamp Set and the co-ordinating Die to cut it out.

I used Smoky Slate to stamp the hippos all across the background. Then using Smoky Slate again, stamped the three pieces to make the die-cut hippo. First the darker body piece, then the features, then finally, the full piece I used for the background, this time stamped off first.

As my new Cut & Emboss machine has arrived, I used it to cut out the hippo. I’m adore this machine already. You definitely need one in your life.

It comes with the plates you need to get started – 1 Base Plate, 1 Die Plate, 2 Cutting Plates, and 1 Specialty Plate. No receiving the machine and not being able to use it straight away. Just assemble the handle following the easy instructions and off you go. The plates are all numbered too and have information on which ones to use for cutting and embossing.

Hippo Happiness Bundle. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

As I knew I wanted to use a green colour to go with the grey (well, I am HIPPOFROG Designs after all!), I couldn’t decide which one to use. Then, my eyes fell on the gingham ribbon in the Flowers for Every Season Ribbon Combo Pack. This ribbon gives the project a fun look, so using co-ordinating cardstock and ink in the same colour, made Just Jade the perfect choice.

Using the Banners Pick a Punch to shape the end of the sentiment strips, these were stuck together, along with the piece of ribbon.

Finally, the hippo was stuck on a punched circle layer which was attached using Dimensionals.

Hippo Happiness Bundle. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

I think I may be creating a few more projects with this set.

If only there was a similar frog based bundle available to use along with this Hippo Happiness one…

Very Versailles and Circle Punches

Due to the Bank Holiday, there wasn’t a Card & (Your) Cuppa session last week, so I’m sharing this project made with Very Versailles and Circle Punches instead.

It’s loosely based on the projects on Page 114 of the Annual Catalogue.

My colour combination is Blushing Bride, Pumpkin Pie and Poppy Parade, with Early Espresso as the accent colour.

The stunning branch image is stamped on the background, with Blushing Bride and Early Espresso used with Sponge Daubers to distress the edges.

A combination of various generations of stamping for the other images create the different depths of colour. Circle Punches cut out these pieces. This trio of circles is then layered in size order.

Very Versailles and Circle Punches. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

A sentiment from the Butterfly Gala Stamp Set has a piece of pretty Scalloped Lace Trim stuck to the back.

This is then stuck onto the project with Mini Dimensionals.

Finally, a few Champagne Rhinestones add some sparkle. These co-ordinate really well with the Pumpkin Pie and Early Espresso colours.

As I haven’t played with Very Versailles for a while, it was nice to stamp with it again.

Purple & Blue Birthday Butterflies

My friend is a fan of butterflies, blue, purple and sparkle, so for her Birthday earlier this week, this card seemed appropriate.

Purple & Blue Birthday Butterflies. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

My blue is Pool Party, one of their favourite Stampin’ Up! colours, with Highland Heather for the purple. All of the stamping is in Smoky Slate.

The butterflies are from the Butterfly Gala Stamp Set and cut out using the co-ordinating Butterfly Duet Punch. Using Stampin’ Blends in both Pool Party and Highland Heather as my colouring tools matches them with the cardstock.

There is also a touch of Wink of Stella on the wings for a touch of sparkle.

Purple & Blue Birthday Butterflies. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

For the background, I used the ‘splat’ from the Forever Fern Stamp Set in both colours to break up the white space. I then chose a simple sentiment from the Blossoms in Bloom Stamp Set to stamp in the bottom corner.

A length of the fabulous new Metallic Mesh Ribbon from the Mini Catalogue makes a great feature. It adds even more sparkle to co-ordinate with the Wink of Stella wings.

Purple & Blue Birthday Butterflies. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

The smaller butterflies are attached with Glue Dots, with the large butterfly glued to the layered circles. This circles section is then given extra definition by being stuck on with Dimensionals.

Abstract/Shapes Class – Essential Tag Punch

Here is another project from my Abstract/Shapes Papercrafting Class. This uses the new Essential Tag Punch from the Mini Catalogue.

Essential Tag Punch. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

When I saw a similar project on page 61 of the new Mini Catalogue, I knew I had to make a version.

I chose the Forever Greenery DSP and cut out 6 shapes, 2 each from 3 different pieces from the pack. By rotating the paper 180 degrees for the second shape, I was able to have two orientations of the images.

Using one of the colours from the DSP, Pretty Peacock as my main colour, it ensures everything co-ordinates.

Essential Tag Punch. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

My shapes are too large for the layer they are stuck onto, so I have cut the edges off to make them fit.

Rather than add a sentiment, I chose to add a die cut shape instead. The shape is a leaf cut from the Forever Flourishing Dies and attached to a punched circle. These are stuck with Dimensionals over a piece of the reversible Pretty Peacock Ribbon.

It makes this a great card for any occasion.

Essential Tag Punch. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

I can’t wait to make more of these using other DSP packs.

August Birthday Gatefold

This August Birthday Gatefold Card is one of the projects from last month’s Fancy Folds Class.

August Birthday Gatefold. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

I shared the crossover gatefold project with you recently, but wasn’t able to share this one until after my friend’s Birthday,

The Playing with Patterns 6×6 DSP pack gave me the perfect piece for the front panels, plus my colour inspiration. If you haven’t discovered the items from this fabulous Suite in the Annual Catalogue, then make sure you take a look.

My basecard is Purple Posy, with Calypso Coral for the other cardstock and ink.

A gatefold card is basically a card where the opening is in the middle, rather the side. My husband calls them barn door cards!

When making a gatefold card, it is always better to score the folds first, rather than just folding in half. This ensures you have a nice crisp and even fold.

Decide how wide you want your finished card to be and double it. This is the size of cardstock you need to cut. If your cardstock size when divided by 4 works out at something other than a whole or .5 of a cm, change your width to a number that can easily be divided. For example, my cards are normally 10.5cm wide, but for this design, I make them 10cm. Mainly because it is easier to divide 20 by 4, than 21.

You then need to score at your divided by 4 number (basically a 1/4 of the width) along one side. Then rotate your cardstock and make the same score on the other side. By rotating the cardstock, you are making the scorelines in the same place on both sides.

Fold along those score lines and your card should be ready to decorate.

August Birthday Gatefold. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

I’ve used the Many Mates Stamp Set here and coloured it using a Blender Pen.

As well as popping sentiment onto layers of circles, I’ve taken a length of the Purple Posy Ribbon from the Playing With Patterns Ribbon Combo Pack. This is stuck onto a piece of Purple Posy cardstock, looping the ends behind the sentiment.

Why not head to my Class Timetable for details of the classes I’m running this year.
