Meowing at the Moon

It’s the 13th (not a Friday), but it seems like an appropriate day to share this project.

This lucky black cat, meowing at the moon is a purrfect (sorry) project for Halloween.

This project is Pumpkin Pie, Basic Black and Whisper White.

First, the wall pattern is made by using the Brick & Mortar Embossing Folder in my Cut & Emboss Machine.

Using a Sponge Dauber and Whisper White Ink Pad, highlights are added to show some of the brickwork.

This is then stuck to the black layer, cutting off any excess from the edges.

Next, a Sponge Dauber and Pumpkin Pie Ink create the moon on a Whisper White shape cut using the 2 1/4″ Circle Punch.

I chose to create my moon using a Sponge Dauber and Ink to give an effect of darker and lighter areas.

Finally, the cat is created using the Cat Punch and sat on the wall using Dimensionals.Meowing at the Moon. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

I really love this silhouette, and the white highlights on the wall which look like it’s glistening in the moonlight.

It’s not too late to get your hands on some of these items in time for Halloween crafting.

Why not join me at one of my classes. Head to my Class Timetable for full details. My Christmas Classes are closing soon.

Mostly Men Class – Brick & Mortar Embossing Folder

The next project from my recent Mostly Men Papercrafting Class is this graffiti wall using the Brick & Mortar Embossing Folder.

Graffiti Wall using Brick & Mortar Embossing Folder. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

I chose a palette of bright colours to make the card suitable for a teenager or younger person. We have Granny Apple Green, Mango Melody, Gorgeous Grape and Real Red, with Smoky Slate accents.

The various sentiments are from the Itty Bitty Birthdays Stamp Set and are randomly stamped onto the Whisper White cardstock.

Next, it’s various images from Artisan Textures to make paint splatter effects.

Once all the stamping is finished, it’s time to use the Brick & Mortar Embossing Folder, along with the fabulous Embossing Plate to create the wall.

Finally, Sponge Daubers and Smoky Slate are used to highlight parts of the wall, before putting everything together.

The wall is stuck to the layer using Tear & Tape to avoid crushing the embossed effect and give it a better adhesion.

At the class, the attendees were given other sentiments from the set they could use. It’s a great project to tailor accordingly to the recipient.

Why not join us at a future class. Full details and booking information can be found at my class timetable.

May Flowers for an April Birthday

A friend (and Stampin’ Up! fan) celebrated their Birthday last week, so I obviously made them a card.

Although their Birthday was in April, I chose the May Flowers Framelits Dies to create this project.

Falling Flowers Stampin' Up! UK

I began by creating a wall using the Brick Wall Embossing Folder.  To achieve this  look, I gently rubbed the folder with a Sahara Sand ink pad before running it through the Big Shot.

My friend loves Old Olive and Cherry Cobbler so these are the main colours I chose to use.  To add a splash of colour I added a 1/2″circle of Daffodil Delight in the centre of the die-cut flowers.

I decided against adding a sentiment as I didn’t want to clutter the blank section of wall.  To add more detail I’ve used loops of Gold Metallic Thread behind the flower and Wink of Stella on the petals.

If you’re a fan of the current Catalogue bundles, make sure you take advantage of them before 31st May.  Current bundled items that aren’t retiring won’t be bundled in the new catalogue.

Last Week’s Card & Cuppa – Dragonfly Dreams creates a buzz

Last week’s Card & Cuppa was a hive of activity with 7 attendees creating the following project:

Dragonfly Dreams Stampin' Up! UK

Even though I don’t take the Big Shot to Card & Cuppa classes, we still used an Embossing Folder and Framelit.  You don’t have to have a Big Shot to use dies and embossing folders.

To create the honeycomb effect, we turned the Hexagons Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder into a Stamp.  We did this by using a Stampin’ Pad to ink up the Embossing Folder applied pressure to transfer the ink.  Cutting out sections of the Crushed Curry piece and then sticking to the Very Vanilla piece made a hive effect.

Bees were stamped directly onto the project with another onto a separate piece of cardstock.  As we were fussy cutting the separate bee, we created a cutting guide by drawing around the co-ordinating framelit.  This gave a more professional look with smooth curved outlines around the feelers and wings.

A play on words sentiment and Linen Thread add the finishing touches with Wink of Stella on the yellow parts of the bee for some sparkle.

If you’d like to join us at next week’s Card & Cuppa classes, please make sure you book your place by 18:00 the night before.
