Guiding Card Making – Butterflies

Last month I was invited to a Guiding event to teach the ladies how to make two cards. Here is one of the projects.

Jar of Love from Stampin' Up! with HIPPOFROG Designs

This is a project from last year’s Charity Card Making Day that I chose to revisit.

It uses leaves from various stamp sets in shades of green. The butterflies are from Garden in Bloom in Rose Red. Both Wild Wasabi (green) and Rose Red are retiring this year, along with the Garden in Bloom Stamp Set. Make sure you get yours while stocks last.

Some of the ladies had never stamped before, so it was lovely to share their excitement with their creations.

If you’d like me to come and teach a group then please get in touch.  I run private classes and workshops and can tailor projects to suit a variety of audiences.

Pop back soon to see the second card from the morning.

Last Week’s Card & Cuppa – Watercolor Wings for Spring

For last week’s Card & Cuppa I moved away from Sponge Daubers and Brayers and made this spring colours project.

Watercolor Wings Stamp Set from Stampin' Up! Card & Cuppa Class project with HIPPOFROG Designs

This bright and sunny project uses various shades of orange and yellow, with red highlights.

To begin, we created the mask for the Garden in Bloom Stamp Set background by folding a piece of Grid Paper. So Saffron and Peekaboo Peach are the paler orange and yellow combination.

The Watercolor Wings Stamp Set provides the Real Red over-stamped butterfly that flies across the masking.

For the large butterfly, Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie and Real Red was the darker colour combination. A piece of Black Baker’s Twine loops around the butterfly to create the body and antennae.

Just a touch of Wink of Stella on the wingtips adds a final bit of sparkle.

Join us for a future Card & Cuppa session by booking your place by 18:00 the day before.

Garden in Bloom for Charity

On Monday I showed you one of the cards from my Charity Card Making Day.

Here is another.

Stampin' Up! Garden in Bloom

This quick and easy card uses the fabulous Garden in Bloom Stamp Set.

The stem and leaves are Wild Wasabi with the petals in Sweet Sugarplum.  An accent colour of Peekaboo Peach creates the centre of the flower.

Happy Birthday from the Thoughtful Banners set with a folded strip of co-ordinating Sweet Sugarplum Striped Ribbon is a finishing touch.

This is another card that could be easily replicated in a whole host of colours.  It would also look fabulous as a set of notecards to give as a gift too.

Which colours would you use?

Stamping onto In Color Ribbon

At our recent In Color Introduction Class we created this pretty floral card for the Powder Pink project.

It uses the gorgeous Garden in Bloom Stamp Set and one of the suggested colour combinations from Stampin’ Up! for Powder Pink.

When I was designing the card, I couldn’t decide which punch to use for the sentiment, as I didn’t want to crowd the project.

Well, as you can see, I didn’t use a punched shape at all.  Instead, a voice in my head said ‘have you tried stamping onto In Color ribbon? So, I stamped straight onto the ribbon to see what would happen.

Don’t you just love those lightbulb moments that actually work?  The new ‘In Color’ Finely Woven Ribbon has taken the ink brilliantly.  Just leave it to one side for a moment to avoid smudging it before putting it on the project.

Have you also spotted the shiny Faceted Gems?

The next Papercrafting Class is on Wednesday 26th July and is based around the Naturally Eclectic Suite.  Click HERE for more details.

Pink and Purple Garden in Bloom

How pretty is this bright scene of flowers?  This is a simple yet effective card using the very versatile Garden in Bloom Stamp Set.

The recipient was one of my Card & Cuppa attendees who recently celebrated their Birthday.

Garden in Bloom Stampin' Up! UK

Using a combination of Rose Red, Flirty Flamingo and Perfect Plum I created this pink and purple garden in bloom.

To colour the centre of the flowers I used Sponge Daubers and So Saffron Ink.  I added some final bling with Metallic Enamel Shapes and Wink of Stella on the butterflies.

Although this is a Birthday Card, I didn’t add a sentiment as I liked the scene too much to add one!  This could quite easily be a card for any occasion and colours changed as required too.

I love the clean and fresh look of the card and how it reminds me of a nice summer’s day.

If you’d like to join us for a Card & Cuppa session then make sure you book your place before 18:00 the night before.
