This pop-up banner card for last week’s Card & (Your) Cuppa Class project is probably the most complicated I’ve taught the attendees so far. As I also like a challenge, I decided to use it as the Card & (Your) Cuppa for Children project too!
It begins life as a Coastal Cabana easel card base, with a fold in the centre, plus a fold across the front too.
Two goalpost pieces are added to the bottom half of the fold. These are long strips with a fold in the middle that are glued in an open position. They are folded at the very end as they sandwich everything together.
On the lower section, three flags are attached to a piece of the twine from the Flowers for Every Season Ribbon Combo Pack. The twine has three strands in Whisper White, Misty Moonlight and a metallic piece. All three pieces are used on this project.
My flags are made from strips of the Playing with Patterns DSP. I only used three strips for the whole project. Each end of the strips are cut with the new Banners Pick a Punch before they are cut into 4.
As each piece is folded, the shape is cut by hand onto the non-punched ends. This is because they are too short to fit in the punch.
When attaching the flags to the twine, make sure you only glue the DSP and avoid the twine. You want to be able to move the flags into position and can’t do this if they are stuck to the twine.
A piece of Tear & Tape secures the ends of the twine to the goalpost piece. Overhang the ends as you can cut these off later.
For the top section, 7 flags are attached to the other section piece of twine. These are then tied onto the goalpost sections. At this point the goalposts can be folded in half and glued to the bottom section to sandwich everything together.
To stop the top section swinging backwards behind the goalposts, I put a small amount of glue on the outside flags to attach them to the goalposts.
My birthday sentiment is from the Itty Bitty Birthdays Stamp Set, again with a punched end. This sits on top of the metallic piece of twine and hides the bottom string.
You can now cut off any overhanging pieces of twine from the edge. I decided to cut off the bottom pieces, but left the top.
Finally, a second sentiment, also from the Itty Bitty Birthdays Stamp Set and two sections of remaining flags are added to the base using Dimensionals. This is to ‘lock’ the pop-up banner in place for the receipient.
