Fabulous Florals on World Cardmaking Day

Happy World Cardmaking Day.

Today I’m sharing another project from my Fabulous Florals Class. This is a quick and easy project to make on World Cardmaking Day.Fabulous Florals on World Cardmaking Day. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

As it’s a monochrome project, it is easy to replicate in your own colours. You can also use any punch shape you have to hand.

My colours are Coastal Cabana and Whisper White. I chose Coastal Cabana as it co-ordinates with the strip of Playing with Patterns DSP across the card.

This DSP pack is one of the packs in the current 15% off DSP Sale running throughout October.Fabulous Florals on World Cardmaking Day. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Medium Daisy Punch shapes are stuck onto the DSP strip, with any overhanging pieces cut off and stuck into the gaps.

The DSP strip is then stuck onto the Whisper White layer.

A cross of co-ordinating ribbon from the Playing with Patterns Ribbon Combo Pack is topped with a sentiment from the Itty Bitty Birthdays Stamp Set in Coastal Cabana ink.

Finally, some Artistry Blooms Sequins, again in Coastal Cabana, are scattered across the project.

Look out for some more designs I’ll be making using this layout.

I’d love to see your World Cardmaking Day projects. What have you made?

Last Week’s Card & (Your) Cuppa – A Very Versatile Project

Last week’s Card & (Your) Cuppa project was a very versatile card.

Not only was it the Card & (Your) Cuppa project, it was the project for the Card & (Your) Cuppa for Children session, and one of the projects at my Papercrafting: Abstract/Shapes Class too. Plus, I also taught it to a group of WI ladies at their monthly meeting.

Sometimes, you just need a project that is suitable for many different scenarios, this was one of those times. I was ready to teach a version of the project to all who ordered the class kit. All they needed to provide was scissors, adhesive and a paper folder, if they had one.

It was a project where stripes and daisies were the sensible choice.

A Very Versatile Project. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

I chose three pinks, Blushing Bride, Flirty Flamingo and Petal Pink and three purples, Purple Posy, Gorgeous Grape and Highland Heather. The leaves and layer are Pear Pizzazz. Daisy shapes are cut using the Medium Daisy Punch and the leaves from the Tulip Builder Punch.

There were two different versions of this project, one with diagonal stripes, and one with straight stripes (pictures of the straight stripes are at the bottom of this post). For each version, the steps were the same.

First, attach the layer to the basecard. Then, add the stripes. Each attendee had 2 stripes in each pink so had to choose which 5 from the 6 to use. The overhang from these was cut off and the white piece stuck down.

A Very Versatile Project. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Using a paper folder, the 6 daisy shapes were curled and stuck together to create 3 flowers. They were then glued to a ‘helper’ circle, a punched circle in Whisper White to help put everything together more easily.

The leaves were then added to the back of the circle before the whole piece was stuck to the card.

You don’t have to use a helper piece, but I find it is easier to position the focal section. Plus, if you want to raise the section onto Dimensionals as you can do it as a whole piece.

A Very Versatile Project. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Finally, three Rhinestones complete the look. These can either be across the project or in the centre of the flowers.

If you are popping the Rhinestones around the edge, you can pop the completed helper circle onto Dimensionals. However, if you are using them as flower centres, it’s best not to use Dimensionals as you are likely to incur more postage due to the thickness.

This is a perfect project for any occasion, but you could easily add a sentiment of your choice too.

Do remember that due to Stampin’ Up! rules, I am currently unable to send stamped images to class attendees. The attendees are free to add their own stamping afterwards.

Here are the straight stripe versions.

Daisy Lane Easel Card

I’m sharing another card from my recent Fancy Folds class. This is an easel card.

Easel Card. Handmade by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

An easel card is one that folds up like an easel when it is open.

For my card, I chose Just Jade and Rococo Rose, two In Colors. I also used the Daisy Lane Stamp Set.

After scoring and folding my base card, I added an addtional panel to the front section. When you are attaching a front piece, make sure you only glue onto the bottom fold. If you don’t, the easel mechanism won’t work and you’ll just have a regular card!

With the stem stamped, I stamped and punched the large daisy for this flower. I also stamped and punched two smaller daisies to use later on. For all of the daisies, I used a Blender Pen to pull the colour and some Wink of Stella in the centres.

A sentiment from the Itty Bitty Birthdays Stamp Set shaped using a brand new punch. Head to page 65 of the new Mini Catalogue to see this fabulous Banners Pick A Punch.

Easel Card. Handmade by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

When decorating an easel card, adding some sort of stopper for the front section is advisable. This is where I used the smaller daisies, sitting on a length of co-ordinating Just Jade Ribbon.

Pop back again to see another project from the class.

Don’t forget that it’s time to use those Bonus Days Coupons. They are valid until 31st August.

If you want to join us for a future class, head to my Class Timetable for full details and booking information. Bookings close two weeks before each class to allow packs to be posted.

Last Week’s Card & (Your) Cuppa – Shabby Smoky Slate

Last week’s Card & (Your) Cuppa project was this shabby smoky slate card.

It’s inspired by Page 137 of the new Annual Catalogue.

Shabby Smoky Slate. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

In the Catalogue, there is stamping on the project. As I can’t send stamped images out to class attendees due to Stampin’ Up! policies, I’ve used punched shapes to create a similar look.

The Smoky Slate background is given a shabby look with an emery board, or scissors to scuff the edges. Any rips or tears add to the look, so don’t be afraid of those. You could even scrunch the background or use Sponge Daubers around the edge for a more intense look.

Daisies and leaves cut from the Medium Daisy and Sprig Punches in Daffodil Delight, Pool Party, Calypso Coral and Pear Pizzazz are put together. Daisies in Basic Gray are cut down to form the daisy centres.

Shabby Smoky Slate. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Once everything assembled onto the Whisper White square, the Linen Thread is stuck to the back using Tear & Tape.

Then, the Whisper White piece is added to the project using Dimensionals in each corner.

Finally, a Gilded Gem is  sat in the centre at the top.

Shabby Smoky Slate. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

The attendees could then add their own sentiment or addtional sparkle if they chose to.

Join us at a future Card & (Your) Cuppa session by heading to my Class Timetable, where you’ll find class information and booking details.

A Bunch of Bright Daisies

It’s great when I’m asked to create special cards. Especially when the recipient is a regular class attendee.

This was a particularly interesting request as I was asked for THREE cards for a special Birthday for the same person!

Bright Daisies. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

I know that the lucky lady loves yellows, oranges and bright colours, so I immediately headed for the brights collection. Along with the Daisy Lane Stamp Set and co-ordinating Medium Daisy and Daisy Punches, this bunch of bright daisies came together. I’m so pleased this stamp set has carried over to the new Annual Catalogue.

This is an A5 card, so it was lovely to be able to use lots of daisies. I used the Detailed Trio Punch to round the corners, just to soften the edges.

Bright Daisies. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

After cutting and arranging strips in Granny Apple Green for the stems, the daisies were added using Dimensionals. As this project was being hand delivered, I used a few layers to add extra depth.

A large bow in Daffodil Delight Ruched Ribbon adds another flourish.

Bright Daisies. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Wink of Stella in the centre of the daisies and Pearls coloured with Stampin’ Blends add the finishing touches. I also made a matching envelope using Designer Series Paper, but didn’t take a picture of that!

Why not take a look at the new Annual Catalogue to see the returning items, and all the new products.

Last Week’s Card & (Your) Cuppa – Floral Punches and Brights

For last week’s Card & (Your) Cuppa project, I used a combination of floral punches and bright cardstock to create this pretty card.

Floral Punches. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

I was asked to use yellow, orange and brights, and this project hits the brief! It’s definitely bright and cheery and sure to put a smile on someone’s face.

Some of you may recognise it as a non-stamping version of this project.

The colours are from the Brights Collection, plus Basic Black. Using colours from the same family is a great way to check that your chosen combination will work well.

The background is Daffodil Delight Medium Daisy Punch shapes glued onto a matching layer. Some overlap the edge, with the excess cut away.

Floral Punches. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Then, two Daisy Punch and two Medium Daisy Punch shapes in Mango Melody are layered to create the focal flower.

Leaves in Granny Apple Green, from the Tulip Builder Punch are scored down the middle with a paper folder and then scrunched. This gives the leaves some extra texture and makes them stand out behind the flower.

Another Medium Daisy Punch shape, this time in Basic Black, had the petals cut down quite short. These petals were then stood up to look like a saucer and this centre piece was then added.

Floral Punches. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Normally, I would raise the daisy up onto Dimensionals, but the finished project would have been too bulky for standard post. This is due to the three Gold Metallic Pearls added to the centre of the daisy to finish the project.

In the class kits, I also added a Timeless Label punched shape for a sentiment that could be added if needed.

Why not join us for a future Card & (Your) Cuppa Class. Find out more details on this and my other classes and kits I’m offering during this lockdown period.

Pink and Sparkly Daisies

It’s that time of year when my friend who likes all things pink and sparkly celebrates her Birthday. This year, I made her some pink and sparkly daisies.

Pink and Sparkly Daisies. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

It’s no coincidence that the design is very much like this project I shared the other day. In fact, I made the cards at the same time.

I know I keep saying it, but there really is no need to keep trying to think up new design ideas every single time. If you find a design you like, create it again. By using a different stamp set or colours, it can change the whole look and feel of a design. It also saves you lots of time and effort, leaving you time to create even more projects.

Pink and Sparkly Daisies. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

I’ve used Blushing Bride, Melon Mambo and Pear Pizzazz as the main colours, with Smoky Slate for the sentiment. The Stamp Set is Daisy Lane, with the bundled Medium Daisy Punch, along with the Daisy Punch for the larger flowers.

Tone-on-tone stamping has created the daisy background, with the corners rounded by the Detailed Trio Punch. A layered focal daisy in Melon Mambo is stamped onto Whisper White. I used Wink of Stella, instead of a Blender Pen to pull the colour along the petals. This also added some sparkle at the same time. Even though you can’t see it in the pictures, there was quite a lot of sparkle on the project!

The Painted Poppies Stamp Set and Painted Labels Dies create the leaves. Itty Bitty Birthdays is the final Stamp Set I’ve used for the sentiment, with the Timeless Label Punch.

Pink and Sparkly Daisies. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

To complement the pink and sparkly daisies, I added a few rhinestones as a finishing touch.

Some of the items I’ve used are on the retiring list, so make sure you get your hands on them before they disappear. Visit my online store to see real-time stock availability.

BYO Stamps – Remembering to Smile

Today I am sharing a project from my first BYO Stamps Class.

This class went ahead in a slightly different way to how I’d imagined. Running the class online with everyone in their slippers is certainly going to make it memorable.

BYO Stamps Classes are for those who have stamps, but aren’t sure of what to do with them. The attendees then recreate each of the designs they are shown using the stamps they have.

This ‘smile’ project is all about the sentiment being the star, with three shapes around the edge.

Remembering to Smile. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

This project is relevant to me today too as I was supposed to be flying out to Cyrpus for a week of relaxation. Instead I am safe at home, playing my part in social distancing. Although it’s sad not to be heading on holiday, I know that I can return there, hopefully next year. So, I’m making sure that I’m remembering to smile.

The fabulous Daisy Lane Stamp Set and Punch Bundle provided the sentiment and shapes for this project. A combination of Pool Party and Night of Navy mixed with Whisper White make this a pretty project.

Remembering to Smile. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Blender Pens are used to pull the colour around the petals, with a touch of Wink of Stella in the centre.

‘Smile’ is on a 2″ Circle Punch with a 2 1/4″ Circle Punch layer. Using Dimensionals, a few of the daisies are raised to create some depth.

Remembering to Smile. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

The finished projects the attendees made over Zoom were fabulous and it was lovely how everyone helped and offered advice to each other.

Card & Cuppa Plus – Daisy Lane yet again!

Before we commenced the recent social distancing requirements, I held my first Card & Cuppa Plus class. This is a Card & Cuppa class, but there are three projects, instead of just one.

This is one of the projects and it uses Daisy Lane yet again!

Daisy Lane yet again! Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

If this design looks familiar to you, it’s because it is. You might recognise this project.

I would actively encourage you to reuse designs. Why use a load of time trying to create something new if you know a design already works.

Here I’ve used the Daisy Lane Bundle, with the larger Daisy Punch too. My colour combination is the fabulous Purple Posy, Highland Heather and stamped off Old Olive.

Daisy Lane yet again! Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Rounding the corners with the Detailed Trio Punch just softens the look. A Blender Pen has been used to pull some of the colour around the daisy petals too.

These daisy shapes have been layered on top of a piece of co-ordinating In Color Ribbon, before a Clear Faceted Gem is added to the centre.

To finish, a sentiment from the Label Me Bold Stamp Set is placed in the corner. Then, some Rhinestones coloured with a Dark Highland Heather Stampin’ Blend just add another touch of bling.

Daisy Lane yet again! Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Don’t forget that any current Bundles in the Catalogues will no longer be available when the new Catalogue launches in June. Make sure you get your hands on the discounted Bundles before then.

As I’m unable to run face-to-face classes at the moment, I’m teaching virtual ones instead. These adhere to the social distancing rules perfectly as everything takes place from the safety of your own home.

Why not join me from yours? Head to my Class Timetable for full details.

Last Week’s Card & Cuppa – Punch Art Bunnies

For last week’s Card & Cuppa session, I created these cute punch art bunnies. Perfect for both Easter and non-Easter events.

Punch Art Bunnies. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

These bunnies are made from the Daisy Punch, Medium Daisy Punch, Vases Builder Punch and Circle Punches. Plus a die cut shape from the Wiggly Bugs Dies for the grass.

I chose Soft Sea Foam for my background to make it look like a nice big, open space, with Old Olive for the grass. The bunnies were Soft Suede and Crumb Cake.

Punch Art Bunnies. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

As you can see, the daisy shapes made the ears. The vase builder shape made the bodies of the smaller bunnies, with the flat edge carefully hidden behind the grass.

For the larger bunny, the vase shape created the head, with the top of the shape rounded to make the top of the head.

Punch Art Bunnies. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Finally, Whisper White Baker’s Twine tied into a bow made a fun tail.

If you’d like to join me for one of my Social Isolation Classes, then please make sure you book your place by the relevant deadlines to allow packs to be posted to you.
