Last Week’s Card & Cuppa – Petal Park in Pinks

Last week’s Card & Cuppa project was also the project I used for the Card & Cuppa for Children session too.

The pink colours were Melon Mambo, Berry Burst and Bubble Bath, with Granny Apple Green.

For the background piece, it is stamped tone on tone using the Petal Park Stamp Set. It is then cut into strips to create a trump l’oeil effect.

At the children’s session, they cut their piece into 3 using the Paper Trimmer. I gave the adults the choice of cutting theirs into more strips and having 5 as the background.

All of the flowers and leaves are stamped in Berry Burst and Granny Apple Green. They are then punched out using the coordinating Petal Park Builder Punch. The outline images are given a touch of colour using a Blender Pen and Wink of Stella centres.

Using what I refer to as a ‘helper piece’ – I chose an oval cut using the Double Oval Punch, each of the flowers are then stuck to this piece. The leaves are then stuck behind. This ‘helper piece’ allows the flowers and leaves to work as one. You can also use a scrap of cardstock for this.

A sentiment, from the Circle Sayings Stamp Set is stamped and added to the project. The bunch of flowers is then stuck on top of the sentiment.

Finally, some Iridescent Rhinestones add some extra sparkle.

The design of this project is one that can easily be recreated using different colours and stamp sets for a variety of occasions.

Special Christmas Cards – Sweetest Borders Dies

This candle project is another design from my recent Special Christmas Cards class.

It’s a nod to the project on Page 21 of the August-December Mini Catalogue.

Pear Pizzazz and Crumb Cake provide the base card and layer, with Garden Green and Real Red for the holly.

The candles are made from Copper Foil Sheets, with flames from the Perennial Flower Punch.

I think the attendees are talking to me again after this project, as it was a little bit fiddly!

Using Tear and Tape on the back of the holly, leaving the backing on, each of the pieces was infilled with the opposite colour piece on the front.

Then, Real Red pieces were added to the back to fill in for the holly berries.

I’m not sure if you can see it very well as the Copper Foil Sheets are shiny, but I have embossed the candles using the scoring blade on my Paper Trimmer.

The flames have a Wink of Stella sparkle added to them before the candles are stuck to the Whisper White layer.

A length of Ribbon from the Basket Weave Metallic Ribbon Combo Pack is attached to back of the holly piece.

This piece is then attached using lots of Dimensionals to raise it above the candles.

Finally, Wonderful Gems are added to some of the berries for some extra sparkle.

All of the projects for this class included a box to be made too. This one had a Crumb Cake base with a Pear Pizzazz top that I have decorated.

More In Color DSP Diagonal Stripes

You may have noticed that I like diagonal designs on projects. I also love using DSP to create diagonal stripes.

Here is a card using three brightest colours from the In Color DSP. It’s a version of this previous project. I like how using a different Designer Series Paper changes the look and feel of a project.

Using a Whisper White base card and Magenta Madness as the accent colour, really makes it pop.

As making these projects doesn’t use much DSP, they are a great way for using up your scraps. Use your Paper Trimmer to cut strips to the width you require, and then start building your pattern. You don’t have to do diagonal stripes!

My pattern starts with a thin strip of the DSP along the diagonal. I’ve then butted the other pieces up to it, one colour at a time, using different sides of the DSP.

The sentiment is from the Butterfly Gala Stamp Set and I stamped this onto my piece after I’d stuck down the strips. Top tip, don’t do this! Stamp your sentiment first incase it doesn’t go quite right, as you can always turn it 180 and stick the strips over it. Alternatively, stamp your sentiment onto a separate piece and stick it on afterwards.

Finally, I added a cute little co-ordinating flat (Dior) bow in the In Color Ribbon.

These really don’t take long to do and you can make quite a lot of projects from just a few strips of DSP. Why not try one or two and mix and match your DSP.

I’d love to see your finished projects.
