Countdown to Christmas #12

My final project of my Countdown to Christmas series is Countdown to Christmas #12.

If you need a quick and simple Christmas Card that is simple to replicate in lots of different colours, then this is it!

One ink pad, matching cardstock, plus Whisper White or Very Vanilla, a couple of stamps, some punched shapes and a swish of ribbon is all you need.

For this monochrome look, I’ve used Misty Moonlight and Just Jade.

Using the Nature’s Beauty Stamp Set in first and second generation stamping, this creates a snowy background. You can leave yours blank, or use a different image.Countdown to Christmas #12. Next, I chose my focal image, a tree from the Perfectly Plaid Stamp Set, stamping it three times. The Just Jade is tone-on-tone, Misty Moonlight onto Whisper White.

The important thing is to stamp 3 of these. Then either cut or punch them out like I have here using the co-ordinating Pine Tree Punch.

These are then stuck onto layered circles. You can use any shape for your layers. These are to help them stand out from the background.Countdown to Christmas #12. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs Countdown to Christmas #12. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

A loop of ribbon is then stuck behind where the circles will sit.

Finally, the centre piece is stuck on using Dimensionals.

Perfect for those moments when you receive a card from someone you’ve forgotten to send to!

Do you have a favourite?Countdown to Christmas #12. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

This design is so simple to replicate using different stamp sets and shapes.

I also made some more using red for one design and pink for another. There aren’t any picture of those though!

Don’t forget to take a look at the Christmas items that are retiring and grab yourself a bargain.

Also, my classes for the first part of 2021 are open for booking. Head to my Class Timetable for full details.

Countdown to Christmas #4

For Countdown to Christmas #4 I’ve created a project with a vintage feel.

Countdown to Christmas #4. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Using Crumb Cake, Early Espresso and Very Vanilla creates something a bit different to the normal greens and reds.

A tree from the Perfectly Plaid Stamp Set is stamped tone-on-tone onto the background.

If you’re making a batch of these, my top tip would be to stamp a whole sheet with trees and then cut it to the size you need.

Three trees are stamped onto a separate piece and then cut out using the matching Pine Tree Punch.

Lengths of Early Espresso Ribbon and Scalloped Lace Trim lay wrap around the stamped layer.

These co-ordinate with the circles that sit on top of them.Countdown to Christmas #4. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Finally, the three trees are stuck onto the circles and the whole piece is raised using Dimensionals.

This is a great project for creating in bulk. You could also add embellishments or sparkle too.

Countdown to Christmas #1

I know Christmas seems ages away, but did you know that it’s actually 12 weeks today?

Every Friday, I’ll be running my ‘Countdown to Christmas’ series where I’ll be sharing a Christmas project with you to help you get ahead.

My first project for Countdown to Christmas #1 is a simple Christmas Card using DSP. It’s the Toile Tidings DSP, a returning favourite from last year’s Autumn/Winter Catalogue.

Countdown to Christmas #1. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

This DSP is currently in the in the 15% off DSP sale during October.

By cutting the pieces of DSP into 3/4″ strips – this gets you 16 strips per sheet. With 12 sheets in the pack, that’s a lot of strips, to make a lot of cards!

With this DSP being Real Red on one side and Garden Green on the other, you can choose how to layer them.

I’ve used 6 strips here and starting at the top, layered them on top of each other onto a piece of cardstock. The overhang from the edges is then cut off, ready to use on the next card.

Countdown to Christmas #1. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

When I’m making projects like this, I put a good amount of glue all along the edges of the cardstock (as close as I can get), plus a couple of strips down the middle. Then, rather than putting glue on the DSP, I just stick the strips directly onto the glue on the cardstock. It helps to keep the glue on the project, rather than all over everything else!

Using a Thick Whisper White basecard and co-ordinating Garden Green as a layer, it helps to bring the project together .

My sentiment is from the Perfectly Plaid Stamp Set stamped onto a shape cut using the Tasteful Labels Dies. By cutting round the edge of this piece, I have been able to use the shape again as a layer.

What is great about these DSP strip projects is you can arrange the strips in any pattern, and add any sentiment.

You can also embellish as much or a little as you like using ribbons, rhinestones, gems etc.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this Countdown to Christmas #1 project. Pop back next Friday for Countdown to Christmas #2.

Last Week’s Card & Cuppa – Rudolph Punch Art

For the final Card & Cuppa sessions of the year, I designed this Rudolph punch art project. We just had to do something silly and fun!

Rudolph Punch Art. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

The Natures’s Beauty Stamp Set provided the snow that was stamped in Seaside Spray.

‘Ho Ho Ho’ is from the Perfectly Plaid Stamp Set and cut out with the Classic Label Punch.

Next, it’s time to create the reindeers using the Budding Borders Stamp Set and Basic Gray for the eyes and mouth.

Sprig Punch antlers in Early Espresso are added behind Soft Suede Circle Punch bodies using Glue Dots. Then the eyes and brown noses are added.

Rudolph’s nose is made very shiny using Wink of Stella and is attached with a Dimensional.

Finally, the reindeers are stuck onto the card using SNAIL, with Rudolph added at the end using Dimensionals to show him leading the pack.

Why not join us for Card & Cuppa sessions in 2020. Classes return w/c 6th Jan. Visit my Class Timetable for more details and to book your place.

Christmas Stamp-a-Stack: Perfectly Plaid

Here’s another project from my Christmas Stamp-a-Stack Class.

This project uses the fabulous Perfectly Plaid Bundle, a Stamp Set with matching Punch,

Perfectly Plaid Bundle. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

A colour combination of Old Olive and Crumb Cake for the trees, mixed with Seaside Spray and Real Red make for a rather traditional Christmas Card.

Using first and second generation stamping for the trees creates a varied effect. It also cuts down on the amount of times you need to re-ink!

I find it easier to punch out the trees before stamping the trunks, as it makes it easier to line them up.

The snow effect in the background is an image from the Waterfront Stamp Set.

A length of Polka Dot Ribbon adds to the snow effect and sets off the sentiment. This is cut out using the Timeless Label Punch.

Everything is assembled using SNAIL, with one tree and the sentiment fixed using Dimensionals.

Don’t forget to check out the Year-End Closeout Sale where you’ll discover which items from the Autumn/Winter Catalogue are retiring, with some available at a discounted rate. You can also check to see if this Stamp Set and Punch will be carried over to the next Autumn/Winter Catalogue too.

I’ve just published my Class Timetable for next year, so why not pop the dates in your diary and join us in 2020?
