Last Week’s Card & Cuppa – Christmas Punch Art Rudolph

As we’ve now reached December, the Card & Cuppa class designs for this month are all Christmas cards.

I love punch art, so couldn’t resist making this Rudolph. I’ve made several versions in the past, but here is the one for 2023.

It starts with a snowy background using Balmy Blue and the ‘splats’ from the Quiet Meadow Stamp Set.

Next a Pecan Pie circle is cut using the 2″ Circle Punch from the Online Exclusives.

Two Early Espresso antlers are cut using the Bough Punch and the piece for the eyes is then cut out using the Little Monkey Builder Punch. There are also two shorter ‘ear’ pieces cut from the Bough Punch too.

The nose is from the Stylish Shapes Dies and is cut from Poppy Parade. It is coated with Wink of Stella to make his ‘very shiny nose’.

Using the Modern Garden Stamp Set (on the Last Chance List), the eyes and mouth are stamped.

Next, the bottom part of the antler is cut off and the ear piece is attached in the same place. You could just glue the ear over the top of the other pieces, but I preferred it this way. Remember to mirror the antlers.

Rudolph is then assembled, apart from his nose, and the ‘ho ho ho’ from the Alphabest Stamp Set is stamped at the bottom, leaving enough room for him to be added.

He is then attached to the project and his nose is raised up on Dimensionals.

I do love a fun Christmas Card and this would be suitable for young and old.

Punch Art Pumpkin

As there wasn’t a Card & Cuppa class last week, I’m sharing this fun Halloween project instead.

As I don’t have any Halloween products, I have made my own pumpkin.

My colours are obviously Pumpkin Pie, Basic Black and Old Olive with Basic White.

I began by stamping the ‘boo’ in the corner using the Alphabest Stamp Set and Tuxedo Ink.

Next, I used three of the colours from the Glitter Washi Tape pack from the July-December Mini Catalogue. These colours coordinate with my project colours.

If you know me, you’ll be aware that I don’t like glitter, so this Glitter Washi Tape was a good compromise for me.

Next, it was the turn of the pumpkin. This was made by cutting 5 ovals from the Double Oval Punch.

They were then given some extra definition with a Sponge Dauber before being stuck together. The stalk and leaf are from the Cherry Builder Punch.

Using Dimensionals, the pumpkin is raised up.

Finally, as I wanted some sparkly gems to coordinate with the Washi Tape, I coloured some Rhinestones with a Basic Black Stampin’ Blend and stuck these to the project.

I think this is a great project to make with children, but it is also a bit more grown up too!

Last Week’s Card & (Your) Cuppa – Ladybug Builder Punch

For last week’s Card & (Your) Cuppa Class I decided to concentrate on one product, the Ladybird Builder Punch.

I love punches and punch art, and have been wanting to make the wings into flowers and leaves for a while now.

To begin, the sentiment from the new Framed Occasions Stamp Set from the Annual Catalogue is stamped in Old Olive.

Using Daffodil Delight and Mango Melody, these bright flowers came to life, with the wings as the petals, and the body, with a little bit of cutting, making the centres.

Each petal was given some shading using a Sponge Dauber in Daffodil Delight.

Dots of Wink of Stella were added to the centre of the flowers before the flowers were arranged on the card. Leaves, also made from the wings in Old Olive were again given some Daffodil Delight shading before being slotted behind.

The ladybug (ladybird) is then made as it is intended, using Real Red and Basic Black.

Finally, some Matte Black Dots are added to make the spots.

I do love a bit of punch art and I think this creates a nice, bright and cheery project.

Last Week’s Card & (Your) Cuppa – Easter Bunny Punch Art

Last week’s Card & (Your) Cuppa project was this cute Easter Bunny Punch Art card.

Easter Bunny Punch Art. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs But, this card is also perfect for any rabbit fan too, not just Easter.

The return of a punch with ovals in the January-June Mini Catalogue was brilliantly timed for this project!

My colour combination is Crumb Cake for the main rabbit, with Blushing Bride and White accents. These sit on a background of Seaside Spray and Pear Pizzazz.

Circle Punches and the Double Oval Punch make the main shapes. Just one shape cut out using the Small Bloom Punch creates the area on the face. Tiny hearts for the nose and pads are from the Dog Builder Punch.

By just popping the ears behind the head, and the feet in front of the body, it comes together very quickly.

Easter Bunny Punch Art. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

The most complicated bit is the face, with lengths of Twine from the Snail Mail Twine Combo Pack creating the whiskers.

Finally, the nose is attached with a glue dot and the Matte Black Enamel Dots eyes area added.

There are so many different options for this design, beginning with the shape of the grass for the background. You can either cut make it curvy as I’ve done here, or create a more 3D effect similar to this project.

Easter Bunny Punch Art. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

With the rabbit, this can either be the front, as I’ve shown. Or, the back of the rabbit, using the Small Bloom Punch shape for the tail, instead of on the face. Another option is to just create the face and pop it looking out through the grass.

I’d love to see what you decide to make.

Some of the punches I used on this project are now on the Retiring List. Items on the list are available while stocks last.

I’ve used Whisper White in my project, which has now been replaced with Basic White. See this post for full details while I work through my supply.

Daffodils for Day of Reflection

Today marks one year on from the first UK lockdown, and the start of a National Day of Reflection.

Having lost someone close during this time, I will be reflecting during the day. My reflections will be for both me and my family, and for others who are also grieving.

Along with a minute of silence at 12 noon and shining a light at 8pm, another suggestion is to buy yellow flowers, Day of Reflection. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Rather than buy some flowers to mark the day, I have made some 3D punch art daffodils to put in my own window.

They are simply made from two punches, Perennial Flower Punch pieces in Daffodil Delight. It couldn’t be any other colour! The trumpets are from the Small Bloom Punch in Pumpkin Pie and the stems are strips cut from Granny Apple Green.

Day of Reflection. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

There are so many extra touches that could be added to them, from additional layers, inking the edges and different colour ways. But I wanted to keep mine simple and create the essence of daffodils, rather than be really precise.

If you want to make your own daffodils, the products I’ve used are listed below.

Last Week’s Card & Cuppa – Punch Art Bunnies

For last week’s Card & Cuppa session, I created these cute punch art bunnies. Perfect for both Easter and non-Easter events.

Punch Art Bunnies. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

These bunnies are made from the Daisy Punch, Medium Daisy Punch, Vases Builder Punch and Circle Punches. Plus a die cut shape from the Wiggly Bugs Dies for the grass.

I chose Soft Sea Foam for my background to make it look like a nice big, open space, with Old Olive for the grass. The bunnies were Soft Suede and Crumb Cake.

Punch Art Bunnies. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

As you can see, the daisy shapes made the ears. The vase builder shape made the bodies of the smaller bunnies, with the flat edge carefully hidden behind the grass.

For the larger bunny, the vase shape created the head, with the top of the shape rounded to make the top of the head.

Finally, Whisper White Baker’s Twine tied into a bow made a fun tail.

Punch Art Easter Eggs

Here is the second project from my Children’s Easter Card Making Kits. Today it is punch art Easter eggs, to go with the Easter lamb I shared the other day.

Punch Art Easter Egg Card. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

As we can’t hold face-to-face Children’s Card & Cuppa sessions during the school holidays at the moment, I put together this Children’s Card Making Kit with an Easter theme instead.

These cheerful (calorie-free) Easter eggs begin life as balloons from the Balloon Bouquet Punch and are then decorated. The eggs can be decorated in a number of different ways, using lots of different mediums. You can let your imagination run wild.

As you can see, I chose to use punched shapes. I’ve used the 1/2″ Circle Punch and Classic Label Punch for my spots and stripes, in a range of colours from the Brights Collection.

I’ve put together a craft-along video to accompany this project kit. Grab your kit, click on this video link and have some fun.

Punch Art Easter Lamb

How cute is this punch art Easter lamb? It’s one of the projects from my Children’s Card Making Kits.

I designed two Easter cards for the kit and this is the first. These Children’s Card Making Kits are part of my Social Isolation Classes offering, currently replacing my regular face-to-face Card & Cuppa for Children Classes I would have been holding during the Easter holidays.

Although the project is designed with children in mind, it’s a perfect project for anyone to create!

Balmy Blue Sky, Garden Green Grass and a Daffodil Delight sun are joined by a Basic Black and Whisper White lamb.

Quite a collection of punches are used from Circle to Layering Circles Dies, there’s even Balloon Bouquet and Elephant Builder Punches used too. You’ll notice that it also uses the Small Bloom Punch from SAB that isn’t currently available. But, fingers crossed it will be making an appearance in the Catalogue again soon.

The project has an accompanying craft-along video that you can join in with too, where I take you through all the steps to make this punch art Easter lamb.

I hope you enjoy the project. Pop back soon to see the other card from this Easter Kit.

Last Week’s Card & Cuppa – Rudolph Punch Art

For the final Card & Cuppa sessions of the year, I designed this Rudolph punch art project. We just had to do something silly and fun!

Rudolph Punch Art. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

The Natures’s Beauty Stamp Set provided the snow that was stamped in Seaside Spray.

‘Ho Ho Ho’ is from the Perfectly Plaid Stamp Set and cut out with the Classic Label Punch.

Next, it’s time to create the reindeers using the Budding Borders Stamp Set and Basic Gray for the eyes and mouth.

Sprig Punch antlers in Early Espresso are added behind Soft Suede Circle Punch bodies using Glue Dots. Then the eyes and brown noses are added.

Rudolph’s nose is made very shiny using Wink of Stella and is attached with a Dimensional.

Finally, the reindeers are stuck onto the card using SNAIL, with Rudolph added at the end using Dimensionals to show him leading the pack.

Why not join us for Card & Cuppa sessions in 2020. Classes return w/c 6th Jan. Visit my Class Timetable for more details and to book your place.

Card & Cuppa for Children – Ice Lollies for a Summer Holiday

Once again I ran Card & Cuppa for Children this week and the theme was ‘We’re all going on a summer holiday’. Who can resist these fabulous ice lollies.

Ice Lollies. Card & Cuppa for Children project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

First, the beach background was created using the clouds from Above the Clouds Stamp Set. The sea and beach were from the High Tide Stamp Set.

Balmy Blue, Bermuda Bay and So Saffron are the colours used.

To create the lollies, a piece of Pineapple Punch and Mango Melody cardstock had their corners rounded using the Detailed Trio Punch.

The chocolate sprinkles are from the Artisan Textures Stamp Set in Early Espresso. A cheeky bite is taken out of them using the 1 1/8″ Scallop Circle Punch.

Ice Lollies. Card & Cuppa for Children project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Next, we created the striped lolly by using the Classic Label Punch and strips of various colours. These were attached to a piece of cardstock with the overhang then cut off.

Crumb Cake strips were used for the lolly sticks, with the pointed end removed.

Ice Lollies. Card & Cuppa for Children project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

A sun with a sentiment from the Rooted in Nature Stamp Set was added.

Finally, the ice lollies were attached, the striped one with Dimensionals to raise it above the others.

They look good enough to eat. Yum!

Next week is our final Card & Cuppa for Children session for this year. Make sure you pre-book your place.
