Sketched Butterflies

April Card Making Class – Project 3

This trio of purple butterflies is the third project from my April Card Making Class.

The attendees made four projects on the theme ‘All creatures great and small’.

For this design, my colour combination was Gorgeous Grape, Highland Heather and Fresh Freesia, along with Basic White.

First, the background is stamped using the Elements of Text Stamp Set and Fresh Freesia using 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation stamping to create a mottled look. This Stamp Set is from the Online Exclusives range.

Next, each of the butterflies was stamped and cut out using the Sketched Butterflies Stamp Set and Dies Bundle. The largest is stamped in Gorgeous Grape, with the smaller ones in Highland Heather.

These items are on the Last Chance Products list, so grab them while you still can.

A sentiment from the Labeled with Love Stamp Set (also on the Last Chance Products list) is stamped in Gorgeous Grape.

Each of the butterflies has their wings curled using a Paper Folder. They are then stuck to the backround using a line of glue down their bodies only. This allows their curled wings to stand out.

Using Mini Dimensionals, the sentiment is raised up across the centre of the large butterfly.

Finally, Rhinestones are use to add a touch of bling.

Last Week’s Card & Cuppa – Sketched Butterflies Stamp Set & Dies

For last week’s Card & Cuppa project, I CASEd this project I made a good few years ago.

The previous project was from way back in 2019, and this is my updated version.

It uses Soft Sea Foam, Crumb Cake and Very Vanilla as the main colours.

First, background leaves from the Painted Lavender Stamp Set are stamped, with the ends of the leaves overlapping at the centre.

Butterflies are from the Sketched Butterflies Stamp Set and cut out using the coordinating Dies from the bundle.

Just 3 pencils from the Watercolor Pencils pack 1 are used to colour them in, then a Blender Pen softens the colouring.

Three lengths of Crumb Cake Baker’s Twine from the Essentials Pack are added across the centre.

The sentiment from the Stamp Set is layered onto circles cut from Circle Punches from the Online Exclusives range.

To create the illusion of the butterflies flying off the page, the wings were curled with a Paper Folder and a line of glue down the centre of the body only.

For the centre butterfly, this and the sentiment are raised up on Dimensionals.

Last Week’s Card & Cuppa – Sketched Butterflies Bundle

Last week’s Card & Cuppa Class project used a new Bundle from the Annual Catalogue.

The Sketched Butterflies Bundle (Sketched Butterflies Stamp Set & Sketched Butterflies Dies) provide some fabulous images and shapes.

A colour combination of Fresh Freesia, Blackberry Bliss and Basic White provide shades of purple.

To begin the background is stamped with the small butterflies. They are then coloured using a Blender Pen to pull the ink from the stamping. Light strokes of Wink of Stella on these butterflies provide some subtle sparkle.

Next, a separate piece of cardstock was coloured with an ombre effect using a Blending Brush and Fresh Freesia ink.

Using the dies from the Bundle, these were used to cut out the ombre piece.

The Modern Oval Punch is then used to cut out the sentiment.

This then has the set of die-cut butterflies carefully stuck to it before the whole piece is attached using Dimensionals.

Finally, the two remaining die-cut butterflies are then added to the project.

My Card & Cuppa for Children Classes during the summer holidays started last week and this was the project for that class too.
