Set Sail in the Direction of Your Dreams

Today I’m sharing a project using a stamp set I haven’t inked up for a while.

Set Sail in the Direction of Your Dreams. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs Messaging with a friend reminded me of the Sailing Home Stamp Set, so I decided to dust it off and use it again.

I’ve chosen Pool Party, Soft Suede and Very Vanilla for my colour combination.

A background is stamped using the Artistically Inked Stamp Set. I think it gives the impression of water.

Next, the various shapes are stamped using the forgotten Sailing Home Stamp Set, and cut out using the coordinating Smooth Sailing Dies.

By using a Blender Pen, I’ve pulled colour from the lighthouse and anchor to give a bit more depth and definition.

Once the lighthouse and wheel were glued down, the birds were then stamped.

A length of Linen Thread is tied through the anchor and looped behind the sentiment.

I love this sentiment as it’s great reminder that we need to take care of ourselves.

The sentiment and anchor are then raised up using Dimensionals.

Last Week’s Card & (Your) Cuppa – Sea Life Dies – again!

At last week’s Card & (Your) Cuppa, we used the Sea Life Dies – again!

From the previous week’s project, there were some leftover pieces from the Layering Diorama Dies. It seemed silly not to use them in another design.

So, rather than just fish, this design uses the seahorse.

Once again, I’ve also added a shape from the Smooth Sailing Dies, the seaweed.

The colours are also similar to before with Balmy Blue, Coastal Cabana and Pool Party for the water.

Seaweed and coral are in Calypso Coral and Old Olive, with the fish in Pumpkin Pie.

My sentiment is from the Art Gallery Stamp Set. I would love to change it to ‘Best Fishes!’

After adding the sentiment and positioning the water pieces, seaweed and coral. It was time to concentrate on the seahorse.

Using Sponge Daubers, Pumpkin Pie and So Saffron, I coloured the seahorse while it was still in the piece it was die-cut to. This die-cut shape is slightly different as it doesn’t cut all the way out, to allow you to use it in a variety of ways.

Once I had coloured it, I cut through the different points to release it. I then attached it using Dimensionals to raise it up, with the tail wrapped around a piece of coral.

The small fish are then placed at the top, by the sentiment.

Finally, some clear shapes from Silver & Clear Epoxy Essentials are dotted around to look like bubbles.

Last Week’s Card & (Your) Cuppa – Sea Life Dies

Recently I made this project, and mentioned that something similar may appear at a future Card & (Your) Cuppa…

…and here it is!

My water is a combination of Balmy Blue, Pool Party and Coastal Cabana.

The top two water layers are cut using the Layering Diorama Dies. A water ripple effect is made using the Bark 3D Embossing Folder on the very top layer.

Between the base card and middle layer, the Night of Navy anchor, cut from the Smooth Sailing Dies, has a piece of Baker’s Twine from the Essentials Pack added to it. There is also a piece of Coral, or seaweed, in Calypso Coral. This is cut into several pieces and dotted around.

More Coral/Seaweed in Old Olive is popped between the middle and top layer.

To give the impression of depth, the top layer is attached with Dimensionals.

Finally, the Pumpkin Pie and Bumblebee fish are added across the various levels.

With this project, the pieces cut out from the layers aren’t going to waste. In fact, my Card & (Your) Cuppa attendees might notice them fairly soon!

Mostly Men – A Misty Moonlight Scene

Another project from my recent Mostly Men Papercrafting Class is this Misty Moonlight scene.

A combination of Misty Moonlight and Night of Navy combine to create the project, with a Daffodil Delight light beam.

The background has texture adding using the Old World Paper 3D Embossing Folder. I thought this looked like the sea, or night sky.

The lighthouse is from the Smooth Sailing Dies. Using the tree shapes from the Majestic Mountain Dies upside down has given me the rocky outcrop for the lighthouse.

In yesterday’s post, the trees are the ‘right’ way up.

The Daffodil Delight piece is cut into the shape of a shaft of light. This has a sentiment from the Timeless Tulips Stamp Set stamped in Night of Navy.

After attaching the sentiment, all of the overhanging pieces are cut off.

As the piece is embossed, the pieces are all stuck down using Tear and Tape to give a strong hold.

For this project, you can position the lighthouse more centrally and add a shaft of light on both sides. Or leave the shaft of light blank and add a sentiment to another part of the project.

In Color Introduction Class – Misty Moonlight

I think you’ll agree this Misty Moonlight project is whaley great! Isn’t he cute? This project is one of six from my recent ‘In Color’ Introduction Class.

A colour combination of Misty Moonlight, Balmy Blue, Soft Sea Foam and Purple Posy work well together. I couldn’t not include Soft Sea Foam as part of this project!

The seaweed is from the Smooth Sailing Dies with the back one glued down completely first. Then the co-ordinating Baker’s Twine from the Flowers for Every Season Ribbon Combo Pack is added. The next piece of seaweed is glued at the bottom and in a few places at the top to make it look like it is still has some movement.

Using the fabulous new Whale Builder Punch, pieces are cut in Misty Moonlight and Balmy Blue. He is put together to create a two-tone effect, with another fin on top.

An eye from the Playing with Patterns Resin Dots just adds a touch of character before he is stuck on with Dimensionals. A Mini Dimensional for under the tail, and regular ones for the body.

Finally, three Enamel Dots in Misty Moonlight create some bubbles.

Last Week’s Card & (Your) Cuppa – Smooth Sailing Dies

For last week’s Card & (Your) Cuppa, I designed a project using the Smooth Sailing Dies.

The colour combination for this scheme was inspired by the Night of Navy and Sahara Sand Baker’s Twine (sadly retiring). I then added Mossy Meadow, Soft Suede and Crumb Cake, from the Neutrals Collecation, along with Very Vanilla.

As the navy strip across the card is quite thin, I folded the overhanging ends around the back of the card and used these to attach the piece to the project, just as I would a piece of ribbon. This avoided having to be extremely careful with glue, and sped up the process too!

After attaching the strip, the twine was also added to the back of the Very Vanilla piece.

Next it was time to build the different layers, adding the seaweed to the background. The layered circles with shapes from the Smooth Sailing Dies (except the anchor), were assembled separately and attached with Dimensionals.

With the twine loosely looped through the anchor to make things easier for us at the end, it was time to create the abandoned rope. The key to this project is to allow the twine to go where it wants, you just guide it along. I really love the way it twine wraps around the seaweed and creates a loop. The crossover of the loop is held in place with a glue dot.

Finally, the anchor was attached and twine knotted to the top and frayed at the ends.

I know that one of the attendees had popped their card in the post later that day.

Mostly Men Class – More Sailing Home Bundle

The next project from my recent Mostly Men Class is yet more Sailing Home Bundle fun.

More Sailing Home Bundle. Designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

For this project, we’ve used the lighthouse Stamp and co-ordinating die, along with the birds and knot stamps.

My colour combination of Night of Navy and Sahara Sand is from the Baker’s Twine behind the sentiment. Very Vanilla completes the combination.

A Blender Pen has been used on the lighthouse to add some shading and the birds are stamped for more depth.

The sentiment from Wiggle Worm Stamp Set is punched out using the Tailored Tag Punch. Behind the sentiment, the reef knot has been stamped off so as not to overwhelm the message.
