Bugs, Beasts & Butterflies – Wiggle Worm Bundle Birthday Card

I’m sharing another project from my Bugs, Beasts & Butterflies class and it’s this Wiggle Worm Bundle Birthday Card.

Wiggle Worm Bundle Birthday Card. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

This is actually the card I sent to my Dad for his Birthday as he’s a huge fan of bugs and creepy crawlies. He loved it!

The worm is my favourite character from the set, so he had to be included. With the way he faces, the mantis was the obvious choice to pair with him, as it looks like they are having a conversation.

Using Soft Suede to stamp on Crumb Cake and Garden Green onto Pear Pizzazz, the bug and worm were created. A Blender Pen was then used to just pull some of the colour across the pieces before they were cut out using the matching dies, along with the grass too.

Just a few of the little flying bugs across the top of the project add an extra bit of fun. These were also given a bit of colour using a Blender Pen.

Finally, a sentiment using the Label Me Bold Stamp Set. The set we used the most at this class was added.

I’ve since discovered similar designs on the web (deliberate pun to fit with the bug theme!) and it looks like I may have used them for my inspiration. However, the images and shapes I used just fitted nicely into this composition. Great minds and all that!

Don’t forget that there are only a few days left of Sale-A-Bration as it ends on 31st March.

During this pandemic, my face-to-face classes have obviously stopped. But, I’m offering postal classes with a video craft-along. Check out all of the different options I have available, from crafting yourself to me sending a handmade card on your behalf, plus children’s classes too.

A Dino Days Birthday Card

Yesterday, one of my ‘honorary’ nephews turned 5. I just knew I had to make him a Dino Days Birthday Card.

Dino Days Birthday Card. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

This Bundle is perfect for children (of all ages!) and I love using the Brights colour family with it.

For this project, it’s a combination of Poppy Parade, Mango Melody and Granny Apple Green. One day, I’ll stop calling it Granny Apple Smith! I teamed it with Whisper White for a bright look.

The Pterodactyls (I think that’s what they are!) are second generation stamping. Another is then stamped directly onto a separate piece of card. Using the co-ordinating dies that go with the Dino Days Stamp Set, I cut out both dinosaurs and the scales.

I love how the shapes for the scales have a larger area to fix them in place behind the dinosaurs.

Footprints are stamped across the project and a Blender Pen then fills them in with some colour.

Next it was the turn of the sentiment from the Wiggle Worm Stamp Set. This is cut out with the Scallop Circle Punch and layered onto a Poppy Parade Circle.

I also used the Detailed Trio Punch to round the corners. This then mirrors the curves of the circles.

Finally, I added some fabulous Googly Eyes from the Autumn/Winter Catalogue to give the dinosaur a bit more of a fun look, before adding the dinosaurs with some Dimensionals.

Check out how cute these eyes are.

I can confirm that the now five year old loved his Dino Days Birthday card.

If you fancy making cards like this one, then make sure you take a look at my 2020 Class Timetable that will be going live in the next few weeks. My Stamp-a-Stack Classes always include a card suitable for children.

Mostly Men Class – More Sailing Home Bundle

The next project from my recent Mostly Men Class is yet more Sailing Home Bundle fun.

More Sailing Home Bundle. Designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

For this project, we’ve used the lighthouse Stamp and co-ordinating die, along with the birds and knot stamps.

My colour combination of Night of Navy and Sahara Sand is from the Baker’s Twine behind the sentiment. Very Vanilla completes the combination.

A Blender Pen has been used on the lighthouse to add some shading and the birds are stamped for more depth.

The sentiment from Wiggle Worm Stamp Set is punched out using the Tailored Tag Punch. Behind the sentiment, the reef knot has been stamped off so as not to overwhelm the message.

Finally, the Baker’s Twine is looped behind the sentiment. I’ve frayed the ends slightly to make it look less perfect.

We used this Bundle twice during the Class. Watch this space for more Sailing Home Bundle projects in the future.

Last Week’s Card & Cuppa – Wiggle Worm Bundle

At a Card & Cuppa for Children recently, we used the Wiggle Worm Bundle. Well, it only seemed fair that the adult class should have a play with this fab bundle too!

Wiggle Worm Bundle. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

This project is similar to this one the children made, with a few tweaks.

The Artisan Textures Stamp Set in Granny Apple Green makes the grass, with Balmy Blue for the clouds.

Wiggle Worm Stamp Set images are stamped in Basic Gray and then coloured with Watercolor Pencils. They are then cut out using the fabulous co-ordinating dies.

An added leaf, the more detailed flowers and the sentiment are all in Call Me Clover.

Finally, the sentiment is cut out using the Balloon Bouquet Punch and attached to the worm using Baker’s Twine. This has been coloured with a Dark Granny Apple Green Stampin’ Blend to co-ordinate the colours.

With this Wiggle Worm Bundle, you can be as realistic or as abstract as you like with the colours.

My favourite character in this set is the worm. It’s got a cheeky charm!

Why not join us at a future Card & Cuppa session. There are three venues to choose from. Book your place by 18:00 the day before.

Card & Cuppa for Children – Cute Creepy Crawlies

It was our final Card & Cuppa for Children session of the summer this week. The theme was Mini Beasts so I designed this card with Cute Creepy Crawlies using the new Wiggle Worm Bundle.

Cute Creepy Crawlies. Card & Cuppa for Childdren project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Everything is from the Wiggle Worm Stamp Set and Wiggly Bug Dies Bundle, except the grass. I used a stamp from Artisan Textures for this.

The colour combination is Granny Apple Green, Balmy Blue and Daffodil Delight with Whisper White. The cute creepy crawlies are stamped in Basic Gray.

After stamping and using the dies to cut out the bugs, Watercolor Pencils were used to colour them.

Finally, the sentiment from the set was added and the mini beasts attached.

This set was clearly a hit with the children who attended, and some of their adults too!

Card & Cuppa for Children – Punch Art Lion

As the Summer Holidays have rolled around again, it’s time for my annual Card & Cuppa for Children Classes.

The venue I hold them at runs a themed set of activities each week. This week it was ‘Movie Mayhem’ and my punch art lion fitted this perfectly due to the newly released Lion King film.

Punch Art Lion. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Isn’t it cute? He uses a lot of punches to create it and there are some key steps, so keep reading for details on how to make your own version.

Punch Art Lion. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

You’ll need:
2 x Daisy Punch – Early Espresso
1 x Pretty Label Punch – Crushed Curry
1 x Pretty Label Punch (extra bit punched from the piece left behind) – Crushed Curry
1 x Circle Tab Punch – Crushed Curry
1 x 1 1/2″ Circle Punch – Crushed Curry
1 x Leaf Punch – Crushed Curry
3 x Elephant Builder Punch (Large Ears) – Early Espresso
2 x Elephant Builder Punch (Small Ears) – Whisper White. You can’t see these very well in the picture above.

Cut the Pretty Label pieces, Circle Tab and Leaf Punch pieces as shown above. Discard the unwanted pieces.

Punch Art Lion. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Now it’s time to assemble:

– Use the tiny circle stamp from Budding Borders Stamp Set to add some eyes to the white pieces
– Use glue dots to attach these to two of the large elephant ear pieces
– Glue the Daisy shapes together to create a mane
– Add the circle to the top
– Attach the two pieces from the Circle Tab Punch to the straight edge of your Pretty Label (body) piece. Make sure the longer edges of the Circle Tab Punch pieces are aligned with the straight edge to create feet
– Add the Leaf piece to the cut end of the Pretty Label extra piece to create a tail
– Attach the tail to the back of the body
– Add the eyes and remaining large Elephant Builder Punch ear to the face
– Draw a mouth using Early Espresso Stampin’ Write Marker.

Create the background using Pear Pizzazz and Old Olive Stampin’ Pads. I’ve used Artisan Textures Stamp Set and High Tide Stamp Set. The sentiment is from Wiggle Worm Stamp Set.

Attach the body of the lion first using Dimensionals, I used a Mini Dimensional for the tip of the tail. Next, add a Dimensional to the top of the head and some adhesive to the bottom of the head. By adding the head last, you can decide if you’d like it angled or straight.

Affix the head and the project is finished 🙂

I hope you like this punch art lion. The young attendees certainly enjoyed making it.

I only have two more Card & Cuppa for Children sessions left this summer. Places are limited so make sure you book your place now.
