Last Week’s Card & Cuppa – Snowman Card

At last week’s Card & Cuppa class, the attendees all made this pop-up snowman card. The theme was a Christmas card suitable for children.

Card & Cuppa Snowman Card. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

The Balmy Blue base card is a zig-zag with the snowman popping out the fold in the back piece.

Using the Making Christmas Bright Stamp Set, we stamped a piece for writing a message and this was layered onto piece of Silver Metallic Card.

Stamping in Kraft ink on the snowman panel using another stamp from Making Christmas Bright and one from the Waterfront Stamp Set gives a snowy backdrop.

Every piece of the snowman is created using 9 pieces folded and stuck together to create the pop-up effect.

The trickiest part was the carrot nose that is slotted through one of the circles before it is stuck to the other 8 pieces.

Once all of the sections are created, it’s time to add the snowman to the centre fold of the card. The addition of a piece of Poppy Parade Striped Ribbon between the body and head makes a cute feature.

Eyes and buttons are then added to finish the snowman. Some of the attendees also used Wink of Stella to add some Christmas sparkle to their stars and snow.

I’ve just realised that I didn’t take a picture of the front of the card! As the focus is the inside of the card, the front was really simple. It was made to look like a parcel, using two strips of DSP left over from making the envelope.

Our Card & Cuppa classes start again in 2019. Check out my timetable for more details.

Tailored Tag Punch – Take Two!

I would normally show you last week’s Card & Cuppa project on a Monday morning, but, I’ve already shared it with you. Last week the attendees made this special Christmas Card.

Instead, I’ll show you a version of another recent Card & Cuppa project. So, here’s Tailored Tag Punch – Take Two!

Tailored Tag Punch - Take Two. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

I made one of these cards for both my Nephew and honourary Nephew who have both just turned 13 within days of each other.

Granny Apple Green and Basic Black make a fun and modern combination. A perfect mix for teenagers.

Tailored Tag Punch - Take Two. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Each one was a mirror image of the other, with green and black reversed. The only other tweak I made was to wrap the Baker’s Twine around the project a few times instead of a knot.

I’m a great believer in not re-inventing the wheel. If you find a design that works, then re-use it. It saves effort and gives you more crafting time!

Last Week’s Card & Cuppa – Botanical Bliss

As last week’s Card & Cuppa was the final one before we head into Christmas cards, I decided to use Botanical Bliss.

Botanical Bliss Card & Cuppa project. Designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

I’ve not used this stamp set at class before but it has some useful sentiments in a fabulous font. It also has some lovely botanical images in flowers, leaves and a bird.

To create the project we stamped the flower image in Sahara Sand onto a circle cut using the 2″ Circle Punch. The image is stamped several times to create multiple images.

These are then coloured using the fabulous Watercolor Pencils. Instead of using a Blender Pen, we’ve used Wink of Stella to give a touch of sparkle. This then sits on a Pool Party layer from the Starburst Punch.

Pear Pizzazz is used to add various leaves to the background, with a mixture of first and second generation stamping. This creates more depth to the images.

Botanical Bliss Card & Cuppa project. Designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

After using the Triple Banner Punch to shape the end, one of the sentiments is then added to the project.

A strip of co-ordinating Shimmer Ribbon adds yet more sparkle.

The final touch of sparkle is from a Clear Faceted Gem sitting in the centre of the flower. Unfortunately, the camera hasn’t captured the amount of sparkle on the project. It’s a lot more shimmery in real life!

In Color 50th

Today I’m going to share an In Color 50th Birthday Card I made for a lovely lady.

In Color 50th Birthday Card. Designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

I decided to use Fresh Fig, Lemon Lime Twist and Powder Pink from last year’s In Color Collection. This combinations works really well together, especially teamed teamed with Whisper White for a crisp and fresh look.

Oh So Eclectic is my Stamp Set of choice, along with the co-ordinating Eclectic Layers Thinlits Dies. For the sentiment I used the Happy Birthday Gorgeous Stamp Set and the Layering Circles Framelits.

In Color 50th Birthday Card. Designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Each flower is stamped and die cut, with a top layer also die cut. These are then stuck together.

As the Birthday was a 50th, additional accents just had to be in Gold, with Mini Sequin Trim and Faceted Gems.

The pieces are then all layered together to create depth.

As the recipient lives in Cyprus, I was lucky that they were visiting family in the UK for their Birthday and was therefore able to send it to them. I’m happy to report they were very happy with their card.

Last Week’s Card & Cuppa – Tailored Tag Punch

After the random nature of the previous week’s class, I chose the Tailored Tag Punch for this clean and precise project.

Tailored Tag Punch card. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

It’s similar to this project I’ve taught previously, but this one covers the whole card front.

The project uses 10 Tailored Tag Punch shapes – 5 in each colour, plus a sentiment. ‘Happy Birthday’ is from the Happy Birthday Gorgeous Stamp Set.

Coastal Cabana and Basic Gray are my main colours and are inspired by the new decor in one of my Card & Cuppa venues.

Tailored Tag Punch card. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

It’s then just a cast of sticking each shape onto the Whisper White layer leaving small gaps between them.

Any overhanging pieces can then be used to fill in the small gaps along the sides.

A length of Whisper White Baker’s Twine tied in a knot goes across the middle before attaching the sentiment with Dimensionals.

Tailored Tag Punch card. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

I love this design as it can suit any occasion and is great for all ages. It’s also great as it uses minimal products. You could even use up your scraps to make a multi-coloured card. Or how about using the colours of a favourite sports team for a teenager?

Pineapple Punch for a Sweet Sixteen

November and December are busy months for Birthdays in my house. This is a card I made for my Niece who has just turned sweet sixteen.

Sweet Sixteen Birthday Card. Designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

I’ve taken my inspiration from Page 73 of the Annual Catalogue.

As it’s a busy time of year for me both at work and home, my crafting mojo tends to leave me. Therefore, having the Annual Catalogue packed full of ideas is a great help.

Images from the Happy Birthday Gorgeous Stamp Set along with the In Color Collection for 2018-2020 are the main features. The outline stamping uses the Memento Ink Pad.

Washi Tape strips behind the ‘celebrate’ make the colours pop. There is a lot of fussy cutting on this project, but it’s worth taking the time to do it well before building the layers.

Sweet Sixteen Birthday Card. Designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

We don’t have black Rhinestones, so I’ve coloured the Basic Rhinestones using a Stampin’ Blend Marker. It’s great that you can tailor your bling to any colour of Stampin’ Blends you like.

Last Week’s Card & Cuppa – Floral Grunge

At last week’s Card & Cuppa classes it was the turn of this floral grunge project.

Floral Grunge Card & Cuppa Project. Designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

I know this type of crafting doesn’t suit everyone, but it’s good to step outside your comfort zone every now and then.

This project is inspired by Page 157 of the Annual Catalogue where I’ve made a few changes.

Timeless Textures is the main stamp set for the images with Swirly Bird for the smaller splatter pattern. Thoughtful Banners gives us the sentiment that is randomly stamped across the page. I’ve used Crumb Cake, Sahara Sand and Soft Suede as the browns and the green is Pear Pizzazz. A mixture of first, second and third generation stamping gives a variety of shades.

Sponge Daubers are used around the edges and in the centre to add more of a grunge and distressed look. These are also used on the scrunched banner pieces behind the flower too.

Floral Grunge Card & Cuppa Project. Designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

To create the flower, two circles, a scallop and the tail from the Bunny Builder Punch are cut from Crushed Curry Cardstock. All of the pieces, apart from the tail coloured on both sides with Pumpkin Pie and a Sponge Dauber.

Scrunching the pieces to soften and then separate them creates the layers for the flower. Once they are stuck together, the tail makes the centre and we turn the flower into a button with a Linen Thread bow through the layers.

Floral Grunge Card & Cuppa Project. Designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

As the banner and flower aren’t flat, they are attached to the finished project using Tear & Tape.

A close-up of the flower button is below.

Pretty in Pinks and Purple

The other week I showed you this project taking inspiration from Page 119 of the Annual Catalogue.

Here is another project I made using the design.

Pretty in Pinks and Purple using Petal Palette. Designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

This card was for one of my regular class attendees and she loves pink and purple. I’ve followed the design from the Catalogue a bit more closely with this project and was able to use dies and thicker layering. This is because is was being hand delivered.

Pretty in Pinks and Purple using Petal Palette. Designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

My stamp set of choice is of course Petal Palette with the co-ordinating Petals & More Thinlits. Picture Perfect Birthday provides the sentiment.

The colour combination of Blushing Bride, Melon Mambo and Rich Razzleberry are the pinks and purple I chose. Whisper White adds an accent for stamping and Baker’s Twine.

Pretty in Pinks and Purple using Petal Palette. Designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

The sentiment is cut out using the Stitched Shapes Framelits. A final touch of bling is added with a Rhinestone.

I’ve taken a lot of inspiration from the Annual Catalogue recently. Not only is it filled with all of the fabulous products, it’s a brilliant resource full of projects to recreate. Check back to see some of these projects over the coming weeks.

Last Week’s Card & Cuppa – Thinking of You

At a recent Card & Cuppa class, the attendees suggested a Sympathy or Thinking of You card as a future project.

Thinking of You project. Designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

This project uses the versatile Rooted in Nature Stamp Set and I took my inspiration from this previous class project.

Crumb Cake tone-on-tone stamping creates a pretty background. The Detailed Trio Punch quickly rounds the corners.

Punching out two shapes with the Classic Label Punch creates the strip across the card. It’s an easy way to create thin strips without having to use a trimmer or scissors. A length of co-ordinating Very Vanilla Baker’s Twine divides this strip.

Thinking of You project. Designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Individual leaves are then stamped in Highland Heather and Gorgeous Grape and fussy cut by hand. The sentiment from the set is cut out using the 2 1/4″ circle punch.

Finally, the layers are built onto a Thick Very Vanilla base card using SNAIL. Dimensionals are used to pop the sentiment.

Thinking of You project. Designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

This is a perfect card to send to someone to let them know that you are thinking of them in their time of need.

Last Week’s Card & Cuppa – Layers and Leaves

Last week’s Card & Cuppa project was inspired by Page 119 of the Annual Catalogue. My version has layers and leaves.

Card and Cuppa Project. Layers and Leaves. Designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

As I don’t use the Big Shot at my Card and Cuppa classes due to space limitations, I chose to use punches to create the layers instead.

Soft Sea Foam creates the gorgeous base and background. It looks fabulous with the Mint Macaron and Grapefruit Grove accents. We of course have some corner rounding using the Detailed Trio Punch.

Petal Palette provides the dotted section that is stamped in Mint Macaron. We then add leaves from the Painted Harvest Stamp Set, some on the background and others cut out using the co-ordinating Leaf Punch. These cut out pieces give us one of our layers.

Another layer comes from the Decorative Ribbon Border Punch as we add a splash of colour.

Our final layers is a sentiment from Picture Perfect Birthday with a strip of Grapefruit Grove ribbon looped behind. I’ve just noticed that all of the stamp sets start with ‘P’!

By raising this on Dimensionals it finishes the project by making the layers more defined.

Card and Cuppa Project. Layers and Leaves. Designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Even though this is a post-friendly project and we only use one layer of Dimensionals. you can clearly see the different layers below. This is achieved by only adhering the middle of the punched strip and the end of the leaves to avoid them being completely flat.

I loved taking inspiration from the Annual Catalogue, it’s a really useful resource for ideas.
