Last Week’s Card & Cuppa – Love Cats

As it’s Valentine’s Day this week, a love-themed card was the design for Card & Cuppa with these adorable love cats.

Love Cats. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

I’d seen various versions of this design on Pinterest (too many to find one person to credit) so made my own version.

Some tone-on-tone stamping using the Hardwood Stamp creates the fence. A few notches are cut by hand to make it a bit more realistic.

The sun/moon (it looks a little washed out in this picture) is made from a mask and sponge dauber

Love Cats. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Using the Fox Builder Punch, the two cats are made from Basic Black and Gray Granite Cardstock. The Gray Granite cat is very lightly sponge daubered.

The tail and body are then added to the fence. Before the heads are added, whiskers are stamped in Memento Ink.

Love Cats. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

The finishing touches are a heart stamped in Real Red and coloured with Wink of Stella, plus a ‘love’ sentiment from Thoughtful Banners.

Perfect for Valentine’s Day or an Anniversary Card.

Last Week’s Card & Cuppa – Amazing Life

At last week’s Card & Cuppa sessions we used another new stamp set from the Spring/Summer Catalogue, Amazing Life.

Amazing Life from Stampin' Up! Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

The sentiment seemed quite appropriate as Card & Cuppa is held in local cafes and coffee shops that serve delicious cake.

Plus, if you can’t have cake on your Birthday…

Using Gray Granite, the sentiment is stamped all over the background, with the cake stamped on a separate piece.

Amazing Life from Stampin' Up! Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Everything is mounted onto a Thick Whisper White base card. For the accent colour, I chose Mint Macaron as it’s an all rounder and co-ordinates with lots of other colours.

The cake and word ‘cake’ were coloured using the Watercolor Pencils and then softened using a Blender Pen.

Last Week’s Card & Cuppa – Incredible Like You

Last week’s Card & Cuppa class again used a new Stamp Set called Incredible Like You from the Spring/Summer Catalogue.

I made the project in both Very Vanilla and Whisper White as I couldn’t decide which one I preferred. The attendees had a choice of which one to make.

Incredible Like You from Stampin' Up! Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Merry Merlot, Melon Mambo, Pear Pizzazz and Old Olive make a lovely combination with both the vanilla and white.

The leaves are a mixture of first and second generation stamping. As the flower is Two-Step Stampin’, the darker, more detailed layer is stamped straight away in Melon Mambo, with the lighter layer stamped off first. This allows you to use the same colour.

The sentiment from Varied Vases provides the finishing touch. Which version do you prefer?

There is a matching kit to go with this Stamp Set. Purchasing both, along with the required Stampin’ Pads and adhesive would qualify for a FREE Sale-A-Bration item. Make sure you don’t miss out.

Lots of Leaves

In the excitement of the new Spring/Summer Catalogue and SAB, I realised I haven’t shared a few projects with you.

Here is the first one and it has lots of leaves.

Lots of Leaves. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

This is the Birthday Card I made for my Mum back in November. Using the Nature’s Twine Pack for my colour inspiration, it’s then combined with the Colorful Seasons Stamp Set and co-ordinating Thinlits.

The leaves have been either stamped, inked with Sponge Daubers on the edges, or both.

Lots of Leaves. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Each leaf and branch has been layered with lots of Dimensionals o add depth. As the card was hand delivered, I built it a lot higher that I would for a posted project.

Happy Birthday Gorgeous and the Stitched Shapes Framelits create the sentiment feature. I then looped the Nature’s Twine to the back of it to add another layer of texture.

Lots of Leaves. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Once the flowers had been added, the finishing touch was a small Pearl in the centre of each one.

I get my inspiration from all sorts of different places and this time it was the colour combination. Where do you get your ideas from?

Last Week’s Card & Cuppa – Butterfly Gala

At last week’s Card & Cuppa classes we said ‘hello’ to the new Butterfly Gala Bundle.

Butterfly Gala Bundle Card & Cuppa Project. Designed and taught by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

This Bundle is a fabulous Stamp Set with 18 images and sentiments, along with a co-ordinating Punch. Don’t forget that bundles are 10% off buying the products at full price. Plus, there’s Sale-A-Bration on at the moment too, where you can receive FREE products for every £45 spent.

I’ve taken my inspiration from the front cover of the Spring/Summer Catalogue. Using the Happy Birthday Gorgeous Stamp Set for the background stamping and sentiment, I’ve added my own twist.

Balmy Blue, Night of Navy, Grapefruit Grove and Pineapple Punch combine to create this pretty scene.

Have you spotted the beautiful new Whisper White Flax Ribbon too? I’m looking forward to colouring this with Stampin’ Blends to create lots of different looks.

Last Week’s Card & Cuppa – Bloom by Bloom

Last week saw the first Card & Cuppa classes of 2019. As there is a new Spring/Summer Catalogue, along with SAB, I chose to use a new Stamp Set called Bloom by Bloom.

This is a fabulous Stamp Set from the new Happiness Blooms Suite. It has a co-ordinating Bitty Blooms Punch Pack, DSP, Embossing Folder, Embellishments, Memories & More cards, cards & envelopes and Calypso Coral Satin Ribbon too.

For this project, I chose 4 of the images to create a pretty background. Calypso Coral, along with In Color Blueberry Bushel and Call Me Clover were my colour choices.

Bloom by Bloom from Stampin' Up! Card & Cuppa project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

When using a Photopolymer Stamp Set like this, make sure you use a Stampin’ Pierce Mat underneath. This ensures a crisp image.

The individual flowers are punched using the fabulous pack of punches. These are going to be so useful for those projects where you’d like a little accent.

Final Card & Cuppa of 2018 – Christmas Wreath

Last week’s Card & Cuppa was the final class project of 2018. It was the third of our special Christmas Cards too.

This stunning wreath was made using the fabulous Sprig Punch.

Christmas Wreath using Sprig Punch from Stampin' Up! Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Garden Green and Real Red with the Making Christmas Bright Stamp Set make the centre sentiment, while Garden Green and Old Olive create the wreath.

Every attendee had a choice of which colour Foil Sheet they used for their background layer. This colour was also the colour of the additional leaves in the wreath. They also chose from a selection of base card colours too.

A tip for this wreath is to scrunch the leaves first to add extra depth.

Crumb Cake Ribbon in a ‘bunny ears’ style bow then adds that extra Christmas feel, and finally Pearls to complete the look.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this year’s Card & Cuppa projects. There are more to come in 2019 and classes begin again w/c 7th January. Make sure you book your place by 18:00 the day before.

Last Week’s Card & Cuppa – Snowman Card

At last week’s Card & Cuppa class, the attendees all made this pop-up snowman card. The theme was a Christmas card suitable for children.

Card & Cuppa Snowman Card. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

The Balmy Blue base card is a zig-zag with the snowman popping out the fold in the back piece.

Using the Making Christmas Bright Stamp Set, we stamped a piece for writing a message and this was layered onto piece of Silver Metallic Card.

Stamping in Kraft ink on the snowman panel using another stamp from Making Christmas Bright and one from the Waterfront Stamp Set gives a snowy backdrop.

Every piece of the snowman is created using 9 pieces folded and stuck together to create the pop-up effect.

The trickiest part was the carrot nose that is slotted through one of the circles before it is stuck to the other 8 pieces.

Card & Cuppa Snowman Card. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Once all of the sections are created, it’s time to add the snowman to the centre fold of the card. The addition of a piece of Poppy Parade Striped Ribbon between the body and head makes a cute feature.

Eyes and buttons are then added to finish the snowman. Some of the attendees also used Wink of Stella to add some Christmas sparkle to their stars and snow.

I’ve just realised that I didn’t take a picture of the front of the card! As the focus is the inside of the card, the front was really simple. It was made to look like a parcel, using two strips of DSP left over from making the envelope.

Our Card & Cuppa classes start again in 2019. Check out my timetable for more details.

Tailored Tag Punch – Take Two!

I would normally show you last week’s Card & Cuppa project on a Monday morning, but, I’ve already shared it with you. Last week the attendees made this special Christmas Card.

Instead, I’ll show you a version of another recent Card & Cuppa project. So, here’s Tailored Tag Punch – Take Two!

Tailored Tag Punch - Take Two. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

I made one of these cards for both my Nephew and honourary Nephew who have both just turned 13 within days of each other.

Granny Apple Green and Basic Black make a fun and modern combination. A perfect mix for teenagers.

Tailored Tag Punch - Take Two. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Each one was a mirror image of the other, with green and black reversed. The only other tweak I made was to wrap the Baker’s Twine around the project a few times instead of a knot.

I’m a great believer in not re-inventing the wheel. If you find a design that works, then re-use it. It saves effort and gives you more crafting time!

Last Week’s Card & Cuppa – Botanical Bliss

As last week’s Card & Cuppa was the final one before we head into Christmas cards, I decided to use Botanical Bliss.

Botanical Bliss Card & Cuppa project. Designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

I’ve not used this stamp set at class before but it has some useful sentiments in a fabulous font. It also has some lovely botanical images in flowers, leaves and a bird.

To create the project we stamped the flower image in Sahara Sand onto a circle cut using the 2″ Circle Punch. The image is stamped several times to create multiple images.

These are then coloured using the fabulous Watercolor Pencils. Instead of using a Blender Pen, we’ve used Wink of Stella to give a touch of sparkle. This then sits on a Pool Party layer from the Starburst Punch.

Pear Pizzazz is used to add various leaves to the background, with a mixture of first and second generation stamping. This creates more depth to the images.

Botanical Bliss Card & Cuppa project. Designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

After using the Triple Banner Punch to shape the end, one of the sentiments is then added to the project.

A strip of co-ordinating Shimmer Ribbon adds yet more sparkle.

The final touch of sparkle is from a Clear Faceted Gem sitting in the centre of the flower. Unfortunately, the camera hasn’t captured the amount of sparkle on the project. It’s a lot more shimmery in real life!
