Ornate Garden Suite in Any Direction

Yesterday I showed you a project where the DSP did all the hard work. Today I’m sharing a card that can be used in any direction, either portrait or landscape. This is another project from my Pretty Paper Stash Buster Class.

Again is used the Ornate Garden Specialty DSP, along with the Ornate Thanks Stamp Set. These are both from the Ornate Garden Suite in the Annual Catalogue.

Ornate Garden Suite in Any Direction. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

As the DSP is cut on the diagonal, with the stamping following the cut line, it makes it an any direction card. Obviously this only works if the pattern on your DSP is non-directional.

I have taken colours from the DSP as my basecard, layer and for the stamping. These are two In Colors, Terracotta Tile from last year, and the new Bumblebee.

When I’m using DSP, I tend to use colours from it. This way, I know they will co-ordinate. It also removes a lot of the thinking. The colours are helpfully listed on the back of the card sheet that comes in the pack, or you can find the details in the catalogue.

By cutting your DSP on the diagonal, you are doubling the number of cards you can make from your pack of 12 sheets. Using yesterday’s design, you can create 72 cards. With this design, you can make 144 – yes, one hundred and forty four!

Make sure you have your Paper Trimmer to hand as it will take a while to cut using a pencil, ruler and scissors.

Here are the landscape versions. Do you have a preference? I can’t decide which way up I prefer.

Last Week’s Card & (Your) Cuppa – All About the Dinosaurs

At last week’s Card & (Your) Cuppa online session it was all about the dinosaurs with this cute dino. A perfect Birthday card for children of all ages.

All about the Dinosaurs. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

My colour combination was taken from the retiring Dinoroar DSP, a strip of which is used at the bottom of the project. Mango Melody, Pretty Peacock, Old Olive and Lovely Lipstick, a retiring In Color make this card bright and fun.

After attaching the DSP strip, a length of the reversible Old Olive/Pretty Peacock ribbon, with the Pretty Peacock side facing up was added.

Next, shapes cut from the Stitched Shapes Dies are layered and attached over the ribbon using Dimensionals.

The scales were added to the back of the dinosaur. Finally, two eyes, cut using the circle in the top of the Delightful Tag Topper Punch were added with Glue Dots. By adding pupils using a pen, the character of the dinosaur came to life.

This is such a fun project to make and the attendees enjoyed making it too.

Why not join us for a future class? Find out more at my class timetable.

Don’t forget that items like the Dinoroar DSP retire on 2nd June, so there is a week to get your hands on them. Check out the retiring list.

Special Christmas Cards: Snowman Season Bundle

As well as my Christmas Stamp-a-Stack, I also run a Special Christmas Cards Class. The attendees make three Christmas Cards and envelopes that are for those special people in their life. These are the cards you give by hand.

One of these is a card suitable for children (or big kids!) and it’s this cute hanging card.

Snowman Season Bundle. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

I knew it had to be snowmen, so the Snowman Season Bundle was the perfect choice.

As I’d pre-made the hanging sections by using pieces of Coastal Cabana Cardstock joined together using the Circle Tab Punch, the attendees could have fun creating their snowmen for each section.

Snowman Season Bundle. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

The punched snowmen were stamped in Smoky Slate, with Soft Suede arms. All the other stamping was in Blueberry Bushel. Stampin’ Write Markers in a variety of colours were used to colour the hats and carrot noses.

Snowman Season Bundle. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

A ‘Let it Snow’ snowball used the 1 3/8″ Scallop Circle with the a Circle Punch layer.

An extra stamped piece is added to the front for when the hanging is closed. It’s then finished off with a length of ribbon to allow it to hang.

I realise that I haven’t taken a picture of what it looks like closed. I’ll try to do that and add it here.

An envelope made from the matching Let it Snow DSP was the finishing touch.

I really like this project as it’s something different. It can be hung from a door handle, message board or window. You could even add extra sections to make it longer.

Don’t forget to take a look at the Year-End Closeout to see if the items from this fabulous bundle are staying with us.

Last Week’s Card & Cuppa – Hues of Highland Heather

Last week’s Card & Cuppa project was all about using one colour, this one was hues of Highland Heather.

Hues of Highland Heather using SAB Botanical Butterfly DSP from Stampin' Up!. Card & Cuppa project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

It uses the Highland Heather piece of fabulous FREE SAB Botanical Butterfly DSP as a background.

Stripes of Sheer Whisper White Ribbon are then coloured using the Highland Heather Stampin’ Blends Combo Pack to create a light and dark strip. These are attached with Tear & Tape to keep them secure.

With Whisper White Ribbon and Stampin’ Blends, you can create ribbon in lots of different shades for all of your projects.

Hues of Highland Heather using SAB Botanical Butterfly DSP from Stampin' Up!. Card & Cuppa project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

The butterflies are created using the Stampin’ Blends to colour a strip of Whisper White Cardstock. These are then cut out using the Butterfly Duet Punch from the Spring/Summer Catalogue.

‘A little note’ from the Butterfly Gala Stamp Set is stamped in Highland Heather and I’ve added some sponge daubering to the edge, along with one of the white butterflies.

Hues of Highland Heather using SAB Botanical Butterfly DSP from Stampin' Up!. Card & Cuppa project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Wink of Stella is used on all the butterflies to give a shimmery effect, although it doesn’t show very well in the pictures.

Glue Dots are used to attach the butterflies to the project at the end.

As the base card is from Thick Whisper White, it creates a delicate monochrome-esque look. Perfect for any occasion.

I think I may create a similar project using the Bitty Blooms Punch Pack for a floral design.

Sale-A-Bration only runs until the end of this month, so make sure you don’t miss out on getting your hands on some fabulous FREE products.

Why not join us for a future Card & Cuppa Class. Book your place by 18:00 the day before.

Frosted Floral DSP Happy Mail

If you are on my Catalogue Mailing List, you will have received some Frosted Floral DSP Happy Mail, along with the new Autumn/Winter Catalogue.

Frosted Floral DSP. Designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

The notecards are really simple and quick to make as the DSP does all the work.

Simply cut the DSP to fit the front of the notecard. You’ll be left with a narrow piece which you can then turn over and stick behind the sentiment to show off both sides of the DSP.

Best Wishes from Petal Palette in either co-ordinating Night of Navy or Blackberry Bliss is the sentiment. These are cut out using the Tailored Tag Punch.

Here are four pieces from the 12 sheets in the pack.

Frosted Floral DSP. Designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

As this is a Speciality DSP, it has a beautiful shimmery finish. I’m not sure if you can see it in the pictures, it’s definitely a ‘need to see it’ product.

A batch of these with a range of sentiments would make a lovely gift.

Here they all are.

You’re the best with Wood Textures DSP

Today I’m sharing something a little bit different. It’s a gift box made with the fabulous Wood Textures DSP.

Gift Box using Wood Textures DSP from Stampin' Up! Project designed by Karen Young at HIPPOFROG Designs

It’s nearing the end of term, so time to get ahead on gifts for teachers (or students). What better way to say Thank you than a gift in pretty handmade packaging?

This box uses just one piece of 6×6″ DSP so is really economical to make. If you are using standard 12×12″ DSP you can create 4 boxes from one sheet.

It’s a really easy box to make as the DSP needs scoring at 3.5cm intervals on one side, leaving a 1cm strip for taping together. On the other side score at 3.5, 11.5 and 14cm on the other to create the bottom and top.

The sentiment from the Label me Pretty Stamp Set sits nicely on the Gold layer. A co-ordinating Gold Library Clip closes the box.

I’ve added a Very Vanilla Baker’s Twine bow to the front, but this is optional.

Gift Box using Wood Textures DSP from Stampin' Up! Project designed by Karen Young at HIPPOFROG Designs

These little boxes are a lovely handmade gift and suitable for everyone. Great for filling with sweets, treats and little gifts. They are perfect for miniatures too, but check that the bottle size is less then 3.5cm diameter first 🙂

As the DSP packs have two sheets of each design, you can easily create a matching card similar to this or this.

If you want to get ahead and start making, then make sure you check back on 1st July when the fabulous Buy 3, get 1 FREE offer returns on selected DSP. The Wood Textures DSP is in the offer.

Daisy and DSP

Today I’m sharing another Stamp-a-Stack project. This one is all about daisies.

Delightful Daisy from Stampin' Up! with HIPPOFROG Designs

It uses items from the Delightful Daisy Suite – stamp set, punch and DSP.

This is a great project for paper stash busting as all you need is strips to make a background. Then it’s up to you how you decide to embellish it. I’ve used ribbon to separate two of the strips and the very simple daisy as the focal point. The centre of the daisy is coloured using a Sponge Dauber and then topped with a Faceted Gem.

It’s another quick and easy project where the longest part is deciding which side of the DSP to use!

Don’t forget that this fabulous DSP is on the retiring list and therefore leaving us at the end of May. Make sure you grab yours while stocks last.

Last Week’s Card & Cuppa – One for the DSP Hoarders

Happy Monday!  I hope you’ve had a good weekend.

I’ve a question for you.  Who can’t bear to cut into their DSP and sits there stroking it instead?  Come on, own up!

Well, for all you DSP hoarders, last week’s Card & Cuppa project is perfect for you.

Blooms & Wishes Stampin' Up! UK

Isn’t it fun?  It uses the Blooms & Bliss DSP and the sentiment from the Blooms & Wishes Stamp Set.  This DSP is now no longer available, but you could use any DSP for this project.

By cutting the DSP into thin strips,  you can place the pieces in any pattern you like.  I used a herringbone pattern for this one, but you could let your creativity go wild!

Here’s another project using a slightly different pattern.

Blooms & Wishes Stampin' Up! UK

The bonus of using DSP in this way is that you can make loads of cards from a pack and show off all sides of the paper at once.  I used 6 strips measuring 6″ by 1.5cm, 3 each from two different pieces of DSP, so it’s really economical.  It also looks really effective and you can change the DSP, colours and sentiments to suit almost any ocassion, or use cardstock instead.  What’s not to love?

By taking a colour from the DSP, I added a sentiment, a strip of card and made a bow with the Bow Builder Punch for the finishing touch.

So, get out that Designer Series Paper and start cutting it into strips.

I’d love to see your creations.

To join us for a Card & Cuppa session, book your place by 18:00 the day before.
