Helping Another Local Business Say Thank You

I recently played my part in helping another local business say thank you to some loyal customers who have been supporting them during the pandemic.

The business is a local Coffee Shop, where I held my regular craft classes pre-Coronavirus.

Helping Another Local Business Say Thank You. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

They wanted to thank a team of staff from a large organisation who have regularly been ordering cakes.

This project is my interpretation of their departmental logo and you might even spot the organisation in the text too!

My colours to reflect the logo are Bermuda Bay, Granny Apple Green, Magenta Madness and Blackberry Bliss, with Whisper White.

For the shapes, the Geared Up Garage Stamp Set provides the larger images. Smaller images and the tiny splats are from the Waterfront Stamp Set.

On top of the stamping, is a sentiment made from the Playful Alphabet Dies. Each letter is coated in Wink of Stella to give a lot of sparkle. You can see this in more detail in the picture below.

Finally, Rhinestones are added for even more sparkle.Helping Another Local Business Say Thank You. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

I can’t wait to get back to crafting at the Coffee Shop again.

In the meantime, why not take a look at my Class Timetable to see the classes I’m currently running over ZOOM.

…and Cauldron Bubble

I hope you’ve been enjoying the Halloween projects I’ve been sharing this week.

My final one is this cauldron, filled with lots of interesting items. ‘Double, Double, Toil and Trouble…’

And Cauldron Bubble... Halloween Card. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

I’ve used LOTS of products in this one to make the cauldron bubble! Make yourself comfortable as this is a long post…

Starting with the Granny Apple Green Basecard, Basic Black Layer and Smoky Slate foreground, these combine to create a spooky witches lair.

I’ve then stamped tone on tone using the Textured Essentials Stamp Set to add some texture to the background. With some Granny Apple Green bubbles from the Pattern Play Stamp Set.

The layers have all been rounded on two corners with the Detailed Trio Punch. And Cauldron Bubble... Halloween Card. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Next, the cauldron. This is a shape from the Tasteful Labels Dies and I think it makes a perfect cauldron.

The contents of the cauldron are Poppy Parade eyeballs, made using the Waterfront Stamp Set and the same image as the bubbles, this time in Tuxedo Black.

There’s also a bat wing from the Umbrella Builder Punch and spider’s legs. I’ll explain a bit more about the legs in a moment.

Then, there are two frogs cut from the Dockside Dies, hopping away from their potential fate.

I’m not a fan of spiders, but I think you will agree that this one is quite cute!

The body is from the head of the Snowman Builder Punch and the legs and strand are from Hippo & Friends Dies. Offcuts of the legs were then popped into the cauldron.

For the eyes, this is the circle from the centre of the Delightful Tag Topper Punch, and the eye from the Whale Builder Punch.

If you haven’t already guessed. I like using my punches and dies in lots of different ways! And Cauldron Bubble... Halloween Card. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

A piece of Metallic Mesh Ribbon across the corner makes it look like a spider’s web.

Here are all of the projects I’ve shared this week. Do you have a favourite?

Taking A Peek At Halloween

As I took a week off last week, there isn’t a Card & (Your) Cuppa project to show you.

Instead, I’m taking a peek at Halloween projects for a few days.

This project makes use of lots of offcuts, so is a great one for using up some scraps.

Taking A Peek At Halloween. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

I began with the eyes. The bloodshot background is the circle from the Waterfront Stamp Set. These are in Poppy Parade Ink in third generation stamping.

The pupils are from the Blossoms in Bloom Stamp Set in Tuxedo Black.

Both eyes are cut out by hand, leaving a thin white edge around them.

They are then stuck onto a piece of Basic Black cardstock.Taking A Peek At Halloween. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Next, strips of Whisper White, with Smoky Slate Sponge Dauber inking added are stuck across the piece of Basic Black.

I placed strips around the eyes first, then added the other pieces. Overlapping randomly at various angles.

Using Multipurpose Glue allows a bit of wriggle room when placing the pieces.

When I was happy with the positioning of the strips, I cut off the excess from the edges.

Before sticking the piece onto the layer, I added some more inking around the edges.

Taking A Peek At Halloween. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Finally everything was stuck together to make this spooky peek-a-boo!

It’s a really easy project to make, especially with children during half-term. You can use googly eyes or punched shapes. The bandages can also be ripped along the edges or you can even use ribbon.

Don’t forget that I’m running my Card & (Your) Cuppa for Children session during the October half-term break, along with my other classes.

BYO Stamps – Going Dotty with the Waterfront Stamp Set

Today I’m showing you a less ‘traditional’ project from my recent BYO Stamps class. Here we are going dotty with the Waterfront Stamp Set!

I enjoy getting the most out of my stamp sets by using the images in lots of different ways. Here, we’re using one of the smallest stamps in the set to create an all over dotty pattern.

Going dotty with with Waterfront Stamp Set. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

This project is similar to a couple of previous projects I’ve made, you can see them here and here.

Although there is a combination of first and third generation Balmy Blue stamping on the piece, I’ve done all of the first generation stamping first. This is to make sure there aren’t any of those annoying lines you get when you accidentally stamp onto the page after stamping over an edge. Please tell me I’m not the only one who does this?!

Next, it was time for the third generation stamping, again in Balmy Blue. This overlaps the other stamping and adds faint images in the background.

The dots were then stamped over the top top in Night of Navy to add a bit more interest.

Going dotty with with Waterfront Stamp Set. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

For the sentiment, the image for the background was stamped onto a separate sheet in 2nd generation, then the ‘Thanks’ was added on top.

This is then cut out by hand. The image isn’t round, so it’s supposed to look a bit uneven. It’s then stuck onto a layer of Night of Navy and again cut round by hand.

With the background piece layered onto a strip, three lengths of Linen Thread cut across the project.

Finally, the sentiment is stuck on using Small Dimensionals.

Going dotty with with Waterfront Stamp Set. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

This is another project that would work brilliantly in a number of colours. Perfect for anyone and any occasion, just change the colours and sentiment to suit. Enjoy going dotty!

I hope you’ve enjoyed all of the projects from the recent BYO Stamps Class. Which is your favourite of the three?

BYO Stamps – Stripes from the Waterfront Stamp Set

How is it July already? Where has the year gone?

For my recent BYO Stamps class, all of the projects used the same stamp set. Today, I’m sharing how we made stripes from the Waterfront Stamp Set.

Stripes from the Waterfront Stamp Set. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

This is similar to a project I made previously, just with different colours.

I like monochrome projects, but this is actually Very Vanilla, Calypso Coral and Terracotta Tile. As the Terracotta Tile ribbon is quite close in colour to the Calypso Coral stamping, I was able to stick to using inks from the Subtles Collection.

Although there aren’t any stripe stamps in the Waterfront Stamp Set, if you look at the images, one of them resembles a stripe. Just because it looks like water or a strip of land, doesn’t mean that is all it should be! I love using stamps in a completely different way.

Stripes from the Waterfront Stamp Set. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

I’ve created stripes here by spacing them evenly across the page. You could make diagonals, a cross-hatch pattern, or just randomly stamp on your cardstock. There are lots of different options.

The ribbon then hides the top of the stamping to create two distinct parts of the project. On this separation line, three flowers from the Small Bloom Punch are stuck onto shapes from the Layering Circles Dies.

Finally, three Rhinestones add some bling.

Stripes from the Waterfront Stamp Set. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Why not use a sentiment in place of the flowers, or place one in the top corner? Alternatively, it can stay sentiment-free. That’s the beauty of crafting, the choice is yours!

I think a batch of these in different colours would make a lovely gift to send to someone.

BYO Stamps – Waterfront Scene

Last week I held another of my fortnightly BYO Stamps classes. All of the attendees had the Waterfront Stamp Set from the Annual Catalogue, and were after some ideas of how to use it. So, I began by creating this serene waterfront scene.

Watefront scene. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

My colours are from the Subtles collection and the project is similar to this card from a previous class. This project is going back to basics, pure stamping with stamps and inks, and no extra embellishments.

By first stamping the water’s edge across the page, this gives the starting point for the scene.

Above this line, trees and mountains are stamped in a combination of first, second and some third generation stamping. Then, by turning the project upside down, the reflections are added just below the water’s edge in second generation stamping. Rather than being really precise and lining everything up perfectly, just aligning a few points of the trees and mountains was good enough to give the right effect.

Watefront scene. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Then it was time to add the water with lots of stamping of the same image to achieve the depth and colour tones needed.

Finally, a So Saffron sun completes the scene before the whole card is assembled.

It’s a great card to have in your collection, ready to send. There is space at the bottom of the card to add your own sentiment too.

Watefront scene. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

I almost feel like I’m sitting at the edge of this peaceful waterfront scene. It reminds me of happy times in the Lake District.

This was the more ‘traditional’ project of the three from the class. Make sure you pop back for the other less standard projects.

I think it’s great to be able to use your stamps in as many different ways as you can, and these BYO Stamps classes enable that. Attendees are able to think about their stamp sets in a slightly different way.

There are a couple of fabulous special offers finishing today, so make sure you check them out. Don’t miss out!

BYO Stamps – Seeing Double with Waterfront

The new Catalogue has arrived, but today I’m sharing a project from a BYO Stamps Class that happened last month.

This uses a Stamp Set that has carried over to the new Catalogue and some products from the new Ornate Garden Suite. It’s definitely a case of seeing double on this project, with multiples of items being used.

Seeing Double with Waterfront. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

The project is inspired by a picture from the previous Annual Catalogue.

Using the ‘splatter’ design from the Waterfront Stamp Set, it is stamped multiple times tone-on-tone onto the Calypso Coral background.

One of the water images is then used to create a pattern on the Whisper White piece, before it has the ends cut into a banner shape.

Seeing Double with Waterfront. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Old Olive is used for the sentiment, quite appropriate for these unusual times. It is also cut to create a banner shape at the end.

Calypso Coral Ribbon from the new Ornate Garden Ribbon Combo Pack is looped between the banners. Then a length of the Whisper White Seam Binding Ribbon creates a bow around both of the banners.

Seeing Double with Waterfront. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Finally, the banners are slightly offset at an angle using Dimensionals to finish the project.

Christmas Stamp-a-Stack: Perfectly Plaid

Here’s another project from my Christmas Stamp-a-Stack Class.

This project uses the fabulous Perfectly Plaid Bundle, a Stamp Set with matching Punch,

Perfectly Plaid Bundle. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

A colour combination of Old Olive and Crumb Cake for the trees, mixed with Seaside Spray and Real Red make for a rather traditional Christmas Card.

Using first and second generation stamping for the trees creates a varied effect. It also cuts down on the amount of times you need to re-ink!

I find it easier to punch out the trees before stamping the trunks, as it makes it easier to line them up.

The snow effect in the background is an image from the Waterfront Stamp Set.

Perfectly Plaid Bundle. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

A length of Polka Dot Ribbon adds to the snow effect and sets off the sentiment. This is cut out using the Timeless Label Punch.

Everything is assembled using SNAIL, with one tree and the sentiment fixed using Dimensionals.

Saying Thank You with In Color 2019-2021

Today I’m sharing some cards I made with In Color 2019-2021 products.

In Color 2019-2021. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

I reached for Notecards and took my co-ordinating colour inspiration from the In Color Ribbon. Crumb Cake works beautifully with all of the In Color 2019-21 colours.

As I was using the same design for all of the daisies, I stamped them using Versamark so I didn’t have to keep changing ink pads. I just had to set the aside for a bit to allow them to dry properly.

In Color 2019-2021. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

A simple leaf background and layered stamped daisies, both from the Daisy Lane Bundle, made this project a breeze.

With a sentiment from the Waterfront Stamp Set cut out using the Classic Label Punch and a strip of In Color Ribbon, the project was quickly complete.

The finishing touch was some Wink of Stella in the centre of the daisies to give a bit of sparkle.

Here are all five together. Which is your favourite?

Happy Mail using Snow Front

Each time a new Catalogue is launched, I send happy mail to eager Stampin’ Up! fans. I made this year’s Autumn/Winter Catalogue ‘happy mail’ using Snow Front.

Snow Front stamp set from Stampin' Up! Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

This involved stamping some of the images from the Snow Front Stamp Set into a scene. I’ve used Pretty Peacock, Garden Green and Highland Heather.

Snow Front stamp set from Stampin' Up! Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

As you can see, it’s not just a set for Christmas. It also works beautifully with the Waterfront Stamp Set from the Annual Catalogue, as I’ve done here.

Waterfront has been used for the background stamping onto the Whisper White Notecards I used.

The scene, and a layer are punched out using circle punches and added to the notecard.

Snow Front stamp set from Stampin' Up! Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

Notecards are a great way to make lots of cards really quickly. They are pre-cut, pre-scored, come with envelopes, are in packs of 20 and available in both Whisper White and Very Vanilla.

It’s a really quick and simple card to make, but very effective.

Did you receive your Snow Front happy mail? What is your favourite item in the Autumn/Winter Catalogue so far?

With all this excitement, you might have missed that the Designer Series Paper Sale is back. Buy 3, get 1 FREE on selected packs. Don’t miss out.
