Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits

Pink and sparkly dragonflies

It was my friend’s Birthday recently and she is a HUGE fan of everything pink and sparkly. Those who know me will realise that is not like me at all!

I merged Touches of Texture, Dragonfly Dreams and LOTS of pink and sparkle to make her card.

Using various different pinks of Flirty Flamingo, Blushing Bride and Berry Burst I began my pink and sparkly mission!

Touches of Texture creates the background with small dragonflies over the top.

The feature dragonfly is cut out with the Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits and a liberal coat of Wink of Stella adds shimmer. Each background butterfly also has Wink of Stella on the wings.

Finally, more pink and sparkle joins the project in the sentiment and rhinestones.

This project pushed me right outside my comfort zone as I really don’t like pink. But, I reminded myself that I wasn’t making the project for me, I was making it for my friend and thought about what she liked instead.

Take time to push yourself out of your own comfort zone. If you don’t like random, grunge, precise, certain colours, techniques etc, take time to try it and think about someone who could be the happy recipient of your finished project.

Colourful Dragonflies

If you saw last week’s Card & Cuppa project, you’ll know about the SAB Springtime Foils DSP.

At my most recent Stamp-a-Stack class, I just had to design a project using it.

This no stamping project uses Sponge Daubers and ink pads to colour the dotty piece of DSP. As the DSP is glossy, it blends the colour really nicely. Wisteria Wonder, Bermuda Bay, Sweet Sugarplum and So Saffron is the colour combination used here. Don’t forget to wipe off any excess ink from the dots.

As it’s the background on this project that is the star, it just needed the dragonflies die-cutting and attaching to the project with Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals. They just fit behind the dragonfly bodies to make them look like they are flying off the card.

I adore this Springtime Foils DSP and will be sad when it goes at the end of the month.  Make sure you get your hands on these fabulous items before the end of SAB.

Dragonfly Dreams and Butterfly Basics

One of my regular Card & Cuppa attendees celebrated their Birthday recently.

Here is the card I made.

Stampin' Up! Butterfly Basics with HIPPOFROG Designs

As they are a fan of pink I chose Melon Mambo, Berry Burst and Flirty Flamingo to create a bright Birthday Card.

I used both the Dragonfly Dreams and Butterfly Basics Stamp Sets with the co-ordinating Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits.

For the background stamping, Flirty Flamingo was stamped off several times to create a softer tone.

The dragonfly was layered with wings stamped underneath and the cut out in Berry Burst on top.  They were separated with Mini Dimensionals to create depth.

I also coated the Berry Burst dragonfly with Wink of Stella to give it a shimmery finish.

A couple of Faceted Gems either side of the sentiment add to the sparkle.
