Finishing Up Friday – Remembrance Poppies

This week’s Finishing Up Friday is all about remembrance.

I had some pre-cut leaves from the Poppy Moments Dies in my stash, so I set about recreating this previous project. It seemed perfect for the time of year.

My colours are obviously Poppy Parade, along with Garden Green, Basic Black and Basic White.

The background ‘splats’ are from the coordinating Painted Poppies Stamp Set.

Lengths of Basic Black Baker’s Twine are wrapped across the project.

Rather than cut the inners and outers of the flowers and leaves in different shades of red and green, I used just the one shade of each. I then darkened the top layer with the corresponding Ink Pad and a Sponge Dauber, before sticking the layers together.

The leaves and bud are then stuck down onto the background. Using Dimensionals, the two flowers are then attached.

As I wanted this project to be sentiment free, a bunny ears bow is added to the Baker’s Twine for a finishing touch.

Finishing Up Friday – Aspen Tree Dies

This week’s Finishing Up Friday uses pre-cut pieces from this Card & (Your) Cuppa project.

The tree cut out and embossed leaves are from the Aspen Tree Dies from the July-December Mini Catalogue. Other leaves are cut from the Forever Flourishing Dies and Poppy Moments Dies.

Splats from the Quiet Meadow Stamp Set are stamped tone-on-tone onto the rear Crumb Cake piece to create a background.

I then used a Sponge Dauber and added some colour to the trees and also to the leaves.

When sticking the tree piece to the background piece, I only used glue around the edges. This then shows more depth through the trees.

Three of the leaves are tied together with a piece of coordinating Baker’s Twine from the Essentials pack, with the other two leaves stuck to the side.

A sentiment from the Nuts About Squirrel Stamp Set is again stamped tone-on-tone and this is attached to the leaves.

Finally, the whole leaves and sentiment pieces is raised up on Dimensionals.

Last Week’s Card & (Your) Cuppa – Aspen Trees Dies

With the new Mini Catalogue and SAB offering, last week’s Card & (Your) Cuppa project used the new Aspen Trees Dies.

This masculine project used the dies to create the tree backgroun and some of the leaves. Other leaves came from the Poppy Moments Dies and the Forever Flourishing Dies.

I chose Sahara Sand, Old Olive, Mossy Meadow, Garden Green and Basic White for my colour combination.

The leaves were arranged behing the sentiment, taken from the new Soft Seedling Stamp Set, also in the Mini Catalogue.

Lengths of the Ribbon Combo Pack, in Sahara Sand and Old Olive sit behind the sentiment.

Finally, the whole piece, including the background cutout is raised up on Dimensionals to give some extra depth through the trees.

Fabulous Florals – Poppy Moments Dies

Earlier this week I held an evening online Papercrafting Class. The subject was Fabulous Florals and this is one of the cards from session.

Poppy Moments Dies. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

It uses the Poppy Moments Dies, with a sentiment from the Well Said Stamp Set.

The black and white background really sets of off the red and green colours of the flowers.

I chose Cherry Cobbler and Real Red for the flowers, with Granny Apple Green and Old Olive for the leaves.

The shapes layer on top of each other to create depth and it’s a really lovely effect. A bud sticking out the side just adds a touch more interest too.Poppy Moments Dies. Project designed by Karen at HIPPOFROG Designs

The centres are in Basic Black, coloured with Wink of Stella to add some sparkle.

With everything assembled, the leaves, sentiment and bud are stuck directly onto the card.

Finally, the flowers are attached with Dimensionals to raise them off the page.

This is a great project that would suit a number of occasions, from happy to sad. It would also look fabulous in other colour ways too.

Pop back soon to see more projects from this class.

I only have three Papercrafting Classes left for 2020, so why not book a place. Head to my Class Timetable for full details and booking information.

Last Week’s Card & (Your) Cuppa – Still inspired by Wimbledon

Every year I create a card inspired by the Wimbledon tennis tournament. As the championships have been cancelled due to the pandemic, last week’s Card & (Your) Cuppa project is still inspired by Wimbledon.

Every year I usually get groans from the attendees as some of them don’t like tennis. However, as I always explain, you don’t have to be a sports fan to use it as inspiration. With a little bit of imagination, lots of different things can spark your inspiration.

Wimbledon’s colours are green and purple with yellow – tennis balls and white – clothing, just like this project.

My green, purple and yellow colours are from the ‘In Color’ collections. Just Jade and Bumblebee from this year and Purple Posy from last year. They of course combine with Whisper White.

Using the Poppy Moments Dies for both the flower and leaves, the centre of the flower receives a coat of Wink of Stella before sticking the layers together.

Knowing where you are going to put your flower is key to what happens with your three background pieces. As you have lots of options of what to do with these pieces, it is worth taking a bit of time working out where to put them.

Mine have been angled and are layered in the order of the flower, with Bumblebee on top.

Next the leaves are added. I chose to offset the leaf outline pieces to create extra interest. Placing the Dimensionals on the project for the flower to sit on, rather than on the back of the flower was really helpful. It meant I could position them strategically over the leaves and also avoid too much bulk to allow the card to go in the standard post.

Finally, three Rhinestones add an extra bit of bling.

This is a fabulous sentiment-free card, perfect for any occasion. But, there is space for your own sentiment too.

In Color Introduction Class – Just Jade

Here is the Just Jade project from my recent In Color Introduction Class. Just Jade is one of the new In Colors from the new Annual Catalogue.

This is a quick and simple project. It uses the new Tasteful Textile Embossing Folder to give a beautiful background in Just Jade.

A circle in Calypso Coral has a leaf from the Poppy Moments Dies stuck onto it. The leaf is in Shaded Spruce. Any leaf or flower shape can be used instead.

Behind the leaf is a length of the co-ordinating Just Jade ribbon.

It’s all set on a Thick Very Vanilla base card. Finally, three Enamel Dots in Just Jade are sprinkled around the project.

There’s plenty of space to put a sentiment if you need to, or it is lovely just left blank. It could also be made a landscape project too.

Pop back and see the next project from the class.
